  • Patent number: 6123814
Abstract: A coating station has a flat sputter source opposite a workpiece receiving arrangement is configured as a planet arrangement. The rotating axes (A.sub.P) of the planets intersect one another on a rotating axis (A.sub.S) of the sun system on the side facing away from the sputter source. As a result, substrates, particularly optical lenses, can be coated in extremely small batches according to given formulas in an advantageously flexible manner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 27, 1999
Date of Patent: September 26, 2000
    Assignee: Balzers Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Martin Dubs, Roman Schertler, Gregor Strasser

  • Patent number: 5415729
Abstract: A vacuum treatment apparatus which is used for the surface treatment of substrates or workpieces in a chamber, includes at least one pneumatically or hydraulically operated seal. The seal can be activated to close against a member for sealing off the chamber, particularly, after a substrate or workpiece has been transported into or removed from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5400317
Abstract: An optical storage disk has a body made of PMMA bulk material with a surface of PMMA. Aluminum or an aluminum alloy, light reflecting layer coats the PMMA surface and is applied using a sputtering apparatus in a sealed gas atmosphere containing argon and carbon containing gas. Application of the coating using sputtering takes place immediately after the PMMA body is inserted into the sealed gas atmosphere and without any pretreatment to the PMMA surface.

  • Patent number: 5017073
Abstract: A lock chamber for conveying a workpiece from one medium (U.sub.0) into another medium (U.sub.7) which comprises a lever (11) acting as a transport system and pivotably mounted in the chamber on one side. With lock gates (5a, 5b) moves aside the lever (11) can swing out by a required degree into the respective media (U.sub.7, U.sub.0). With the design of the transport system as unilaterally mounted levers (11), the volume of the lock chamber is largely independent of the trajectory of the lever and the volume can be minimized (FIG. 1).
