  • Patent number: 11927577
Abstract: A chemical indicator solution, an apparatus, and a method for determining concentration of a chemical analyte is provided. In particular, the apparatus provides a simplified and low cost way to determine that a fluid sample contains a minimum recommended concentration of a chemical. Rather than using complex and expensive components or error-prone manual methods to prepare the solution and measure chemical concentrations, the apparatus may allow for the automatic measuring and mixing of the chemical components of the resulting solution through the unique geometry and layout of the apparatus. The resulting solution may contain a chemical indicator which allows for the detection of the concentration of the chemical analyte within the resulting solution using techniques such as color analysis.

  • Patent number: 9084879
Abstract: An iontophoretic drug delivery device storage apparatus and a method of using that device is disclosed. The device comprises a fluid reservoir, an electrode assembly and a tray apparatus. The fluid reservoir is capable of retaining a medicament and has a sealed fluid chamber defined by at least one seal. The seal includes a weaker region and a pinch-like configuration associated with that region such that application of pressure to the fluid reservoir breaks the weaker region of the seal, releasing the retained medicament. The electrode assembly comprises an active electrode, at least two passive electrodes a medicament carrying region, and a moat region around the medicament carrying region so that once fluid is delivered from the fluid reservoir to the electrode assembly the fluid is substantially retained in the medicament carrying means.

  • Publication number: 20130207754
Abstract: A magnetic flux switch having a substrate and an elongated rod having a first end attached to the substrate and a magnetic material attached to the second end. An electrostatic comb drive pivots the rod between a first and second pivotal position in dependence upon the input signal for the comb drive. In its first position the magnetic material is positioned closely adjacent a magnetic flux sensor on the substrate so that flux flow through the rod flows through the sensor which then generates an output signal. Conversely, with the rod in its second position, the magnetic material is spaced from the sensor so that flux does not flow through the magnetic flux sensor.

  • Publication number: 20120206134
Abstract: A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device for sensing a magnetic field comprising: a base; a cantilever attached to the base structure at a first end and movable at a second end, the second end oscillating at a predetermined frequency upon application of a current; a magnetic sensor attached to the movable second end; at least one flux concentrator mounted on the base adapted to transfer magnetic flux to the sensor; whereby when the current is applied, the oscillation of the cantilever causes the sensor to oscillate between the lines of flux transferred from the at least one flux concentrator resulting in the shift of the frequency of the sensed magnetic field to the predetermined frequency. The invention further comprises a method of making the MEMS device.

  • Patent number: 8011560
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and improved method of friction stir spot welding that assures a predetermined bottom thickness and a reduction in variation in a series of resultant spot welds. The advantage of the present invention lies in that the plunge distance is controlled from the top plane of the anvil against which the bottom thickness is specified, and systematically adjusted to account for changing system parameters, such as, but not limited to, deflection and thermal expansion of the weld gun. The present invention also provides for improved and controlled weld quality through implementation of a dwell operation or dwell operations, whereby weld heat input is manipulated by causing the weld tool to dwell in a dwell region or at a desired depth or depths within the workpiece(s) for a predetermined time interval to achieve desired mechanical properties of the resultant weld joint.

  • Publication number: 20050116673
Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling the operation of a tool are provided. These methods and systems may be used to control the operation of any tool, for example, a drill or a saw. The methods and systems employ at least one sensor to detect at least one operational parameter of the tool, for example, drill speed or acceleration. Instrumentation is used to process the data representing the parameter to determine characteristic values of the parameter, for example, amplitudes and frequencies. These characteristic values are used to control the operation of the tool, to determine one or more properties of the material being acted on by the tool, or to monitor the condition of the tool. Though aspects of the invention may be applied to a broad range of tools and machining processes, in one aspect, the methods and systems are used to monitor and control the operation of a surgical drilling process, for example, for the drilling of bone.

  • Patent number: 6488428
Abstract: A fluid assembly for a bioelectrode for use in a drug delivery device and a method for using such an assembly. The fluid assembly includes a reservoir for containing a fluid, and a barrier member for securing the fluid therein. The reservoir includes a breaking component positioned therewithin for breaking at least a portion of the barrier member upon application of a downward force to the reservoir. The breaking component is constructed from a material which is substantially chemically non-reactive relative to the fluid to be retained in the reservoir, the interior surface of the reservoir itself, and to at least that portion of the barrier member operatively in contact with the fluid.
