  • Publication number: 20020007213
Abstract: A drug and drug delivery system may be utilized in the treatment of vascular disease. A local delivery system is coated with rapamycin or other suitable drug, agent or compound and delivered intraluminally for the treatment and prevention of neointimal hyperplasia following percutaneous transluminal coronary angiography. The local delivery of the drugs or agents provides for increased effectiveness and lower systemic toxicity.
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 7, 2001
    Publication date: January 17, 2002
Inventors: Robert Falotico, Gregory A. Kopia, Gerard H. Llanos, John Sieklerka

  • Publication number: 20010029351
Abstract: An intralumen medical device comprising anti-proliferative and anti-thrombotic or anti-coagulant drugs, agents or compounds may be utilized in the treatment of vascular disease. The intralumen medical device is selectively coated with the drugs, agents or compounds for local delivery, thereby increasing their effectiveness and reducing potential toxicity associated with systemic use. The selective coating is utilized to ensure that the specific drugs, agents or compounds come into contact with or are delivered to the appropriate tissues and/or fluids for maximum effectiveness.

  • Patent number: 6153252
Abstract: A process is provided for coating stents having a first and second surface with passages there between to avoid blockage and bridging of the passages. The process comprises contacting the stent with a liquid coating solution containing a film forming biocompatible polymer under conditions suitable to allow the film forming biocompatible polymer to coat at least one surface of the stent while maintaining a fluid flow through said passages sufficient prevent the film forming biocompatible polymer from substantially blocking said passages. Also described are stents coated by this process.

  • Patent number: 5667764
Abstract: Compounds are provided having the capability of binding therapeutically active substances to lipid containing bio-compatible particles, such as cells or viruses. These compounds include a bio-affecting moiety, comprising a therapeutically active substance, which is linked via a linking moiety to at least one hydrocarbon substituent selected so that the compounds is sufficiently non-polar to impart lipid binding capability to the compound. Thus, compounds of the invention are useful for site-selective delivery of therapeutic agents, and retention thereof at the selected site. Methods are provided for using various compounds of the invention in treatment of diseases or other pathological conditions. For example, methods are provided for treatment of: (1) post-angioplasty restenosis; (2) rheumatoid arthritis; (3) tumor cell proliferation, particularly tumor cells associated with ovarian cancer; and (4) psoriasis.

  • Patent number: 5375606
Abstract: A separation method for use in conjunction with bio-analytical techniques, such as cell screening and blood flow measurement, in which a carrier bearing a bio-affecting compound comprising a reporter moiety is contacted with an organic extractant which is immiscible with the carrier, so as to produce distinct extractant and carrier phases, with a major amount of the bio-affecting compound originally associated with the carrier being transferred to the extractant phase. The separation method is particularly useful in performing bio-analytical techniques involving fluorometric determinations, as fluorescence efficiency is increased substantially by transfer of a fluorescent reporter from an aqueous carrier phase to the organic extractant phase, and concentration of the fluorescent reporter in the extractant phase prior to fluorescence measurement.
