  • Patent number: 7799264
Abstract: A base of a container may include a standing surface, a first wall, a second wall, a first hinge, and a second hinge. The first hinge may be positioned between the standing surface and the first wall, the first wall being rotateable about the first hinge relative to a longitudinal axis of the container. The second hinge may be positioned between the first wall and the second wall, the second wall being rotateable about the second hinge relative to the longitudinal axis of the container, where rigidity of the base prevents substantial net distortion of the base during rotation of the second wall.

  • Publication number: 20100055369
Abstract: A preform for making a lightweighted plastic container includes a finish portion having at least one external thread defined thereon that has a first sidewall thickness, a main body portion, an end cap, and a transition portion between the end cap and the main body portion. The end cap has a second side wall thickness that preferably is not less than said first side wall thickness of the finish portion. The main body portion is preferably unstepped, and the outer surface of the transition portion is preferably concave as viewed in longitudinal cross-section. In addition, the transition portion preferably extends for a longitudinal distance, and a ratio of the longitudinal distance to an outer radius of the end cap is preferably within a range of about 0.3 to about 0.

  • Publication number: 20080047964
Abstract: A plastic container comprises an upper portion including a finish defining an opening into the container, a lower portion including a base defining a standing surface, a sidewall extending between the upper portion and the lower portion, the sidewall defining a longitudinal axis, and at least one substantially transversely-oriented pressure panel located in the lower portion. The pressure panel is movable between an outwardly-inclined position and an inwardly-inclined position to compensate for a change of pressure inside the container. The standing surface defines a standing plane, and the entire pressure panel is located between the standing plane and the upper portion of the container when the pressure panel is in the outwardly-inclined position.

  • Publication number: 20060070977
Abstract: An oval plastic container. A cross-section of the container, taken perpendicular to the height of the container shows an oval or elliptical shape. Such a container has front and back sides. The container also has a left side and a right side. Given the oval shape of the body, the width of the container as measured from the left side to the right side, is less than the depth of the container, measured from front to back. The front and back of the container therefore have a relatively small radius of curvature, compared to the left and right sides. The front and/or the back of the container includes a relatively featureless panel. Such a panel is flat, apart from the curvature that results from the oval shape of the body. Such an area can be used for the application of a pressure-sensitive label. The oval shape of the body prevents the labeled surface from buckling during the cooling process.
