  • Patent number: 9707361
Abstract: CPAP treatment apparatus (10), as one form of positive pressure ventilatory assistance, is disclosed. A turbine/blower (14), operated by a mechanically coupled electrical motor (16), receives air or breathable gas at an inlet (18) thereof, and supplies the breathable gas at a delivery pressure to a delivery tube/hose (20) having connection at the other end thereof with a nose mask (12). A microcontroller (38) has an operational “Mask-Fit” mode. An initial constant pressure level is applied by the blower (14) to the mask (12). If the functional mode is a Manual mode, then the mask-fit test pressure is the current ‘set’ pressure. If the functional mode is the Automatic Titration mode, the mask-fit test pressure is the 95th percentile pressure of the previous session, otherwise it is the base treatment pressure, e.g. 10-12 cm H2O. This constant pressure is applied for a period of time, typically 1-3 minutes.

  • Publication number: 20130061302
Abstract: There is described methods, systems and software for creating, managing and using authentication credentials. The invention maintains for each user two authentication credentials—external and internal authentication credentials that share the same number of authentication factors of the same type. These are stored in a data store [1.4]. The user users the external authentication credential by a device [1.1] that is external to the network [1.8]. This is matched to the internal authentication credentials that are then used authenticate the user on the network [1.8]. It is an advantage of the invention that the internal authentication credentials are not stored on the device [1.1] leading to greater security. Also, the client software on the device [1.1] does not need to be customised in anyway to deliver this improved security.

  • Patent number: 6571599
Abstract: A flow generator having use in the provision of CPAP or assisted ventilation treatment is disclosed The flow generator has a turbine for the supply of breathable gas which is driven by an electric motor and an associated motor power supply. The power supply in turn is controlled by a controller. A pressure sensing port measures delivery pressure that is passed to a pressure transducer, the output signal of which is passed to the motor controller. The zero offset of the pressure transducer is automatically calibrated on occurrence of the conditions where the turbine is not operating and no pressure activity is sensed by the transducer. The turbine not operating condition can be determined from Hall-effect sensors integral to the motor.

  • Patent number: 6363270
Abstract: The occurrence of an arousal in a patient associated with an apneic or hypopneic episode car be determined. Sensors are placed on a patient to obtain signals representative of at least two physiological variables, for example skin conductance, heart rate and blood oxygen concentration. The signals are conditioned by conditioning circuitry, then processed by a processor to correlate at least two thereof. A coincident change in at least two of the processed signals is indicative of the occurrence of an arousal, that in turn indicates an apneic or hypopneic episode has occurred. A patient thus can be diagnosed as suffering conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea.

  • Patent number: 6237592
Abstract: A flow generator for the supply of breathable gas, which includes an electric motor driving a turbine, control circuitry, a pressure transducer to sense delivery pressure at or remote from said flow generator and whose electrical output is connected to the control circuitry, and sensing means connected to the control circuitry, and wherein the control circuitry is operable to determine from the sensing means whether the electric motor or the turbine are operating and from the pressure transducer whether there is no pressure activity, and if both determinations are satisfied, to accept the output of the transducer as a calibrated pressure offset value representative of atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 5647351
Abstract: A ventilating system for supplying a patient with respiratory gas has an apparatus for measuring a respiratory gas flow curve 27 and a respiratory gas pressure curve 28 and has an evaluation circuit 8 for processing at least the respiratory gas flow curve and switching over the respiratory phases. As switchover values from one respiratory phase to the other, the evaluation circuit 8 utilizes predetermined trigger thresholds T.sub.IL, T.sub.EL of the respiratory gas flow curve 27. The ventilating system is improved in such a manner that a good adaptation thereof to the breathing effort of the patient 2 is provided even when leakage is present. This task is solved in that, in the evaluation circuit, the respiratory gas flow curve 27 and the respiratory gas pressure curve 28 are logically coupled during both the inspiratory phase and the expiratory phase. This logic operation takes place in accordance with a predetermined function. From the foregoing, an inspiratory trigger ancillary threshold Z.sub.
