Abstract: A system and method for providing an improved data schema for representing financial transactions using data relationships based on financial transaction information is provided. Instead of relying on financial transaction documents for financial transaction information, the underlying data and their relationships are used to represent the financial transaction information. For example, each entity involved in a financial transaction may be represented separately. Furthermore, each entity may be associated with a role played by the entity in the financial transaction and entity type that describes the type of entity. Relationships in which the entity may be involved may depend upon this and other information.
