    Abstract: Disclosed is a tier-based storage and indexing of data objects. An importance score is determined for each of a plurality of data objects based on one or more associated attributes. Each data object is assigned to one of at least two tiers according to its importance score. Subject data associated with the data objects is stored in a data store using tier-specific indexing parameters, wherein a first tier is indexed to include a first amount of subject data and a second tier is indexed to include a different amount of subject data. Upon detecting a change in the importance score of a particular data object, the data object is reassigned to a different tier and its associated subject data is stored or reindexed in accordance with the indexing parameters of the reassigned tier. These techniques improve storage efficiency and access performance by dynamically adapting indexing granularity based on data importance.
