  • Publication number: 20140150115
Abstract: The described embodiments include a content provider device that can assign items of content (applications, digitally-rendered music, books, videos, etc.) to users upon receiving assignment messages from administrative devices. The items of content can be electronically transferred to the user's devices to be used by users. The content provider device can also revoke assignments of items of content from users upon receiving revocation messages from administrative devices. The revocation generally causes the loss of one or more rights to the item of content for the user. For example, the content provider device can stop providing services for the item of content and/or can cause the item of content to be deleted from a corresponding user's device.

  • Publication number: 20140040412
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that delivers content to an electronic device. The system includes a content provider that obtains a public address of the electronic device from a first request for the content from the electronic device. Next, the content provider uses the public address to identify a local caching server on a local area network (LAN) of the electronic device. Finally, the content provider provides a local address of the local caching server to the electronic device, wherein the local address is used by the electronic device to obtain the content from the local caching server and the LAN without accessing a content delivery network (CDN) outside the LAN.

  • Patent number: 8521540
Abstract: Embodiments of methods, apparatuses, devices and systems associated with encoding and/or decoding audio data are disclosed. More particularly, the claimed subject matter relates, at least in part, to a data compression/decompression method or technique, such as a lossless, approximately lossless, and/or relatively lossless data compression/decompression method or technique, for example, along with systems or apparatuses that may relate to method or technique. The disclosed techniques and methods may achieve audio data compression ratios that may be comparable to lossless compression processes. In addition, under certain circumstances, such compression ratios may be achieved while also reducing or simplifying the computational complexity of the compression and/or decompression method or technique.

  • Patent number: 8515350
Abstract: Peer-to-peer communication is established between applications in different Bluetooth enabled devices in a Bluetooth network by using Bluetooth protocol messages to discover peer-to-peer bus daemons. In the Bluetooth enabled computing devices, an initiating peer-to-peer bus daemon initiating a connection from a first device to a second device discovers an accepting peer-to-peer bus daemon at the second device. After the discovery of the accepting peer-to-peer bus daemon by the initiating peer-to-peer bus daemon, the initiating peer-to-peer bus daemon sends SDP protocol messages to find a named application available through the accepting peer-to-peer bus daemon. An extended inquiry response with a unique identifier is created and sent by the accepting peer-to-peer bus daemon to the initiating peer-to-peer bus daemon.

  • Patent number: 8423508
Abstract: An apparatus or method of context-aware communication comprises obtaining, by an access terminal, a plurality of terminal data from a plurality of access terminal subsystems, one or more terminal applications, or a combination of both. Further, the various embodiments may include determining at least one context corresponding to at least a portion of the plurality of terminal data. Also, various embodiments may include creating a context profile having a context identifier identifying each context, wherein each context profile comprises profile parameters corresponding to the respective portion of the plurality of terminal data determined to correspond to the respective context. Additionally, the aspects include storing each context profile. Optionally, other embodiments may further include monitoring for the occurrence of a context corresponding to a content profile, and performing a context action triggered by detecting the occurrence of a context.

  • Publication number: 20120257630
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for communicating messages between communication devices are disclosed. The method includes receiving, from a second communication device, a message with a compressed header and a compression token, the compression token replacing routing information compressed out of an original header of the message. The method also includes determining, using the compression token, whether the routing information is stored on a first communication device, and requesting, if the routing information is not stored on the first communication device, that the second communication device send the routing information to the first communication device. And the first communication device routes the message to a destination device based upon the routing information.

  • Patent number: 7882238
Abstract: Using Bluetooth to provide the network management functions such as device discovery, service discovery, security negotiation, and connection establishment. Upon a Bluetooth connection being established between the Bluetooth-enabled devices an IP channel availability query is made. This is accomplished by using information request signals from the Bluetooth L2CAP protocol layer. If an IP channel is available on both the devices and the communication modules using that IP channel are compatible the devices will then establish a secondary Internet Protocol (IP) based data channel between them.

  • Patent number: 7284697
Abstract: A portable profile carrier stores and securely transports a user's profile and data files from one computer to the next. The profile carrier is a two-component assembly comprising a smart card and a PCMCIA smart card reader. The reader is physically constructed in a form factor of a PCMCIA card and has a slot to receive the smart card. The reader has a smart card interface and controller to facilitate data communication with the smart card. The reader is equipped with data memory (e.g., flash memory) to store the user profile and data files. Access to the data memory is protected by the smart card. The composite profile carrier enables access to the user profile on the flash memory when the smart card is present and the user is authenticated, and disables access when the smart card is removed or the user is not authenticated.
