  • Publication number: 20130231985
Abstract: Improved single space parking meters capable of accepting payment from a card that stores a monetary amount are described. The single space parking meter includes functionality for reloading a monetary amount to a parking card. The single space parking meter may read account information from the payment card using the card reader and receive an indication of the monetary value to load or reload onto the parking card. The parking meter may communicate with a remote system to authorize a transaction using the payment card's account information for the monetary value. An indication of whether the transaction of the payment card was successful or not is received at the parking meter and the parking meter attempts to load or reload the monetary value to the parking card when the transaction was successful.

  • Publication number: 20110316716
Abstract: A parking meter and parking meter network is described as well as a method of operating the parking meter and parking meter network. The parking meter network includes a gateway that transmits a first beacon message that is received at the parking meter. The parking meter synchronizes an internal timer based on the receiving of the first beacon message, and then goes to sleep for a period of time. The gateway transmits a second beacon message and the parking meter wakes up at the expiration of the sleep period using the synchronized internal time and receives the second beacon message.
