Patent number: 7523185Abstract: A method is disclosed for automatically provisioning network devices for use with virtual circuit networks, such as frame relay and ATM networks. The device receives a list of identifiers corresponding to virtual circuits from a configuration interface for the virtual circuit network. The device iteratively applies each identifier from the list to individual instances of interface configuration commands and attempts to provide connectivity with a remote device. Once a configuration command is applied, the device will obtain an IP address for a device terminating the virtual circuit corresponding to the identifier selected from the list; and determines an IP address for itself. The device tests the virtual circuit for connectivity with the remote device. If the device is able to determine that the virtual circuit corresponding to the selected identifier provides connectivity to the remote device, then that virtual circuit is used to connect to the remote device.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2004Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: John Ng, Gregory A. Fowler, Arnold L. Stamler, Antony Richards, Sairaj Pakkam

Patent number: 7441384Abstract: The invention provides a new floor covering panel and floor covering system in which the floor covering panels include first and second generally planar surfaces, first and second side edges containing first and second complementary coupling members, respectively, and an adhesive composition selectively applied to at least a portion of at least one of the first and second coupling members. The adhesive composition providing the adhesive bond may be applied to at least one of the first or second coupling members during the floor covering manufacturing process. After a floor covering system is assembled, the adhesive composition provides a substantially non-refastenable bond between mated floor covering panels.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2002Date of Patent: October 28, 2008Assignee: Columbia Insurance CompanyInventors: Robert J. Miller, Gregory Fowler, Benny Ray Wood, Kirk T. Lowe

Publication number: 20060270295Abstract: A reinforced secondary backing and method of using the same, in which the reinforced secondary backing includes reinforcing yarns interconnect to the secondary backing fabric. The reinforcing yarns generally extend in the longitudinal or warp direction and provide additional surface area to which an adhesive may bind when combining the reinforced secondary backing to a primary backing in forming a laminate carpet. The reinforcing yarns may be spaced across at least a portion of the backing uniformly, concentrated in an area that typically displays weakness (such as adjacent the edges of the carpet), or a combination thereof. It is noted that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to ascertain quickly the subject matter of the technical disclosure and is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2006Publication date: November 30, 2006Applicant: Shaw Industries Group, Inc.Inventor: Gregory Fowler

Patent number: 7103007Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for auto-sensing LMI protocols in frame relay networks. When a router is first coupled to a frame relay network, it automatically configures the local management interface (LMI) to use one of a selected set of possible LMI protocols, by generating a set of protocol requests for a plurality of protocols, and by thereafter simultaneously listening for protocol responses from the configuration server. Multiple valid responses from the configuration server are assigned priority in response to which valid response is last to arrive.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2002Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Shankar Natarajan, Gregory A. Fowler

Patent number: 6891832Abstract: At least one technique is disclosed for improving the efficiency of fragmentation techniques currently implemented in conventional data networks. According to a specific embodiments, fragmentation may be automatically and dynamically enabled on a particular link at times when there is real-time traffic being carried over that link. At times when there is no real-time traffic being carried over the link, fragmentation may be automatically and dynamically disabled or significantly reduced. In this way, the technique of the present invention may be used to improve the efficiency data networks.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2000Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Ming-Chin Chien, Gregory A. Publication number: 20040031225Abstract: The invention provides a new floor covering panel and floor covering system in which the floor covering panels include first and second generally planar surfaces, first and second side edges containing first and second complementary coupling members, respectively, and a barrier composition selectively applied to at least a portion of at least one of the first and second coupling members for providing a moisture barrier to prevent water penetration below the first surface of the floor covering panel. The barrier composition may be applied to at least one of the first or second coupling members during the floor covering manufacturing process.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2002Publication date: February 19, 2004Inventor: Gregory Fowler

Patent number: 6538988Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for sending and receiving end-to-end bidirectional keep-alive messages using virtual circuits. Nodes coupled to a network, such as a frame relay network, periodically exchange link-layer “keep-alive” messages which indicate information regarding configuration and status of the virtual circuit, as well as information regarding congestion at sending nodes. Nodes respond to received keep-alive messages, or to timed-out failure to receive keep-alive messages, with follow-on actions, such as attempting to reconnect when a virtual circuit fails. Keep-alive messages may be propagated across multiple networks of either similar or different architecture. Keep-alive messages include sent and received sequence numbers, thus providing receiving nodes with a technique for determining if any keep-alive messages have been lost.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Shankar Natarajan, Gregory A.
