  • Publication number: 20230250878
Abstract: A seal assembly is for sealing between an outer member and an inner member, one of which is rotatable about a central axis. An outer annular case is coupled with the outer member and an inner annular case is disposed within and spaced radially inwardly from the outer case. An annular sealing member is disposed within and coupled with the inner case, the sealing member having a centerline coaxial with the central axis and a sealing lip or lips engaged with the inner member. An annular elastomeric coupler has a first axial end attached to the outer case and a second axial end attached to the inner case. The elastomeric coupler is radially deflectable such that the outer case or inner case is radially displaceable relative to the other one of the two cases while the centerline of the sealing member remains coaxial with the central axis.

  • Patent number: 11592110
Abstract: A seal assembly includes an outer annular case disposed within and coupled with a rotatable outer member to be angularly displace about a central axis. An annular flexible seal is disposed within and coupled with the case to angularly displace about the central axis when the outer member rotates about the axis. The flexible seal has elastomeric sealing lip(s) engageable with an outer circumferential surface of the shaft or of a sleeve disposed about the shaft. An annular inner rigid seal is disposed within the outer case and has an inner end coupled with the shaft or the sleeve, the flexible seal being radially displaceable with respect to the inner rigid seal. An outer annular rigid seal is disposed about the inner seal and has an inner end sealing against the inner rigid seal. A biasing member biases the outer rigid seal against the inner rigid seal.

  • Publication number: 20150377357
Abstract: A seal assembly is for sealing a space between first and second members and includes a generally annular elastomeric seal body disposed about an outer surface of the first member and extending circumferentially about a central axis. The body includes a base portion and a sealing portion, the sealing portion having an inner end integrally formed with the base portion and an outer, free end sealingly engageable with an axial surface of the second member so as to define a generally annular seal interface. A wiper is coupled with the seal body and has an engagement portion contactable with an axial surface of the second member at a position spaced radially outwardly from the sealing portion outer end. As such, the wiper engagement portion directs substances on the second member axial surface generally away from the sealing interface when the wiper contacts the substances during rotation of the rotatable member.

  • Publication number: 20150354704
Abstract: A seal assembly is for sealing a space between first and second members, the first member having a central axis and an outer circumferential surface extending about the axis, the second member having a radially-extending axial surface. The seal assembly includes a generally annular elastomeric seal body disposed about the first member outer surface and extending circumferentially about the central axis, the body including a base portion and a sealing portion having an inner end integrally formed with the base portion and an outer, free end sealingly engageable with the second member axial surface, a generally annular cavity being defined between the base portion and the sealing portion. A biasing member is disposed within the annular cavity and is configured to exert a generally radially-inwardly directed force on the seal body so as to substantially prevent relative angular displacement between the seal body and the first member.

  • Patent number: 9132539
Abstract: A method of forming a seal assembly for sealing a space between a first member having a central axis and an outer surface and a second member having a radially-extending axial surface includes the following steps: providing an elongated elastomeric body and a biasing member, the elongated body having opposing ends and a generally V-shaped groove generally along a length of the body between the two ends; bending the elongated body circumferentially about the first member outer surface; coupling the ends of the elongated body to form an annular seal body; and positioning the biasing member within the groove such that the biasing member exerts a radially-inwardly directed force on the annular seal body so as to substantially prevent relative angular displacement between the seal body and the first member.
