The communication device (10) includes an audio input device (26) that receives voice commands with at least one of the voice commands being an alphabetic character. The communication device (10) also includes memory (30) that is used to store the voice commands. In addition, the communication device (10) includes a control module (12) coupled to the audio input device (26) and the memory (30). The control module (12) associates the at least one of the voice commands with one numeric digit.
