  • Patent number: 5882789
Abstract: A packaging material suitable for forming a heat sealable, easy-opening and reclosable package is comprised of a heat sealable base member material having a first heat sealable surface and, secured to the heat sealable surface, an elongate, heat sealable, multilayer, flexible, peelable and reclosable, preferably coextruded, strip comprised of an interior tacky adhesive layer, first and second sealant layers each comprised of heat sealable polymer, and a rupturable layer, preferably comprised of an ionomer, proximate the tacky adhesive layer. One of the strip sealant layers is secured to the first heat sealable surface of the base member. The strip enables the base member to be heat sealed along and by means of the strip to form a package whose heat seal has sufficient initial seal strength to remain closed during handling and yet can be manually readily opened and reclosed.

  • Patent number: 5882749
Abstract: A heat sealed, easy-opening and reclosable package, which comprises a packaging material comprised of a heat sealable base member material, and an elongate, multilayer, flexible, peelable and reclosable strip positioned between the surfaces of juxtaposed portions of base member material and comprised of an interior tacky adhesive layer, a first and second surface sealant layers, the strip including a rupturable layer proximate the tacky adhesive layer. The base member material is heat sealed together along and by means of the strip whereat the sealant layers of the strip are heat sealed to the base member. The heat seal has sufficient initial seal strength to remain closed during handling of the package and yet is manually readily openable and reclosable.

  • Patent number: 5691052
Abstract: The invention relates to a polymeric composition which acts as an improved cold seal mechanism over prior art cold seal structures. The composition comprises a blend of 40% to 80% by weight of a tacky adhesive and 60% to 20% by weight of a lower viscosity, non-tacky resin. The composition has a seal strength of at least 0.2 lbs per inch when sealed to itself at a temperature of less than 120.degree. F., and can be formed into a film for subsequent use in packaging.

  • Patent number: 5679422
Abstract: A coextruded multilayer polymeric film for use as a chub film having a core layer of an oxygen barrier material and layers disposed on either side of the core layer comprising a blend of an ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer formed from a polymerization reaction in the presence of a single site catalyst and a tie or adhesive, or alternatively a blend of a tie or adhesive and an ethylene acid copolymer, including a neutralized ethylene acid copolymer such as an ionomer. The film also comprises outer sealant layers comprising a blend of an ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer formed from a polymerization reaction in the presence of a single site catalyst and optionally a compound selected from the group consisting of LLDPE, having a density of between about 0.910 g/cc to about 0.940 g/cc, and an ethylene acid copolymer.

  • Patent number: H1727
Abstract: A heat sealable, co-extruded multi-layer packaging film with a peelable, easy-opening feature, comprising a first layer which comprises a blend of polypropylene and a primary resin. The primary resin may comprise ionomers or other acid copolymers, ethylene vinyl acetate, low density polyethylene, or linear low density polyethylene. The first layer is disposed in contact with a second outer layer, which is a heat sealant layer, comprising polybutylene. The heat sealant layer separates from said first layer when force is applied to the heat seal. The film may be laminated to additional components, and may be heat sealed to itself or to a similar film to form a package.
