    Abstract: Belt tensioning apparatus particularly suited for maintaining the proper tension in a drive belt for providing reciprocal linear movement for scanning apparatus wherein a coiled spring having a first hook portion extending from one end thereof and a second hook portion extending from the other end thereof is located so that a portion of the drive belt passes under the first hook portion, around the coiled spring and under the second hook portion to apply a relatively constant tensioning force on the drive belt.
