  • Publication number: 20090085968
Abstract: A mobile device is disclosed. The mobile device includes an inkjet printhead, a print media feed path for directing print media past the printhead in a feed direction during printing, and a capping mechanism including a capper moveable between a capping position in which the capper is urged into a capping relationship with the printhead, and an uncapped position in which the capper is displaced away from the printhead thereby exposing the printhead to print media in the print media feed path. The capper is moved between the capped and uncapped position by engagement with an edge of the print media as the print media moves through the feed path.

  • Publication number: 20090058924
Abstract: A gear arrangement for a capper of an inkjet printer comprises a first gear assembly mounted to the printer so as to cooperate with a motor gear for driving rotation of the first gear assembly, the first gear assembly having a code feature; and a second gear assembly mounted to the printer so as to cooperate with the first gear assembly to be rotatable therewith, the second gear assembly, in use, cooperating with a capper for capping a printhead so that the rotation of the second gear assembly moves the capper out of and into its capping position. The code feature of the first gear assembly is arranged to cooperate with a holding feature of a mounting arrangement used to mount the second gear assembly to the printer, the code feature being configured so that the cooperation with the holding feature maintains the first gear assembly at a predetermined position during the mounting of the second gear assembly.

  • Publication number: 20080248833
Abstract: Provided is a mobile telephone which includes an internal printhead, an ink cartridge and an optical sensing arrangement. The internal inkjet printhead arrangement is fed with print media via internal and external pathways defined by a body of the telephone. The ink cartridge supplies ink to the printhead. The optical sensing arrangement enables the telephone to decode tags of coded data printed on such media fed through the internal and external pathways. The sensing arrangement includes a beam splitter configured to deflect incoming light onto an image sensor of the telephone, a first infrared LED operatively directing light onto media present in the external pathway, and a filter and lens arrangement configured to receive and direct light reflected from the external media onto the beam splitter.

  • Publication number: 20070206073
Abstract: A printhead assembly with a printhead integrated circuit (IC) and a shut off (138) valve that has a valve body (200) defining an ink inlet (202) for connection to an ink supply, an ink outlet (67) connected to the printhead IC. A moveable valve member (212) is biased into sealing engagement with the valve seat (216) to provide a fluid seal between the ink inlet and the ink outlet. An actuator (204) for unsealing the valve member from the valve seat upon energizing and re-sealing the valve member to the valve seat when de-energized. The valve protects the ink in the ink supply from contaminants that can migrate up the ink line during shut down periods. The valve member is constantly biased to a closed position and so seals the ink supply from the printhead IC as a default condition even in the event of a power failure. The bias is strong enough to provide the fluid seal so that the seal is not compromised when the pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet is small.
