  • Publication number: 20120124596
Abstract: A device including an interface component configured to couple the device to a computing machine, a storage component configured to store a device driver for the device, and a driver application executed from the storage component and configured to identify the device as a storage device if a device driver has not been loaded onto the computing machine and bad the device driver onto the computing machine in response to the device coupling to the computing machine.

  • Publication number: 20100321881
Abstract: Methods for cooling computer systems are provided, in which the computer system has a processor and a fan. An exemplary method comprises: determining a temperature threshold for operating the fan at greater than low speed; determining a temperature of the computer system; and throttling the processor if the temperature corresponds to the temperature threshold for operating the fan at greater than low speed. Systems also are provided.

  • Patent number: 7809965
Abstract: A computer system including a processor and a fan. The computer system can determine a power usage of the computer system and throttle the processor if the power usage corresponds to operating the fan at an increased acoustic level. The processor is throttled to cool the computer system prior to operating the fan at the increased acoustic level.

  • Publication number: 20100212341
Abstract: Systems and methods that receive a digital signal outputted from a single line of a device are disclosed. Embodiments of the systems and methods calculate the temperature of the device based on the digital signal. Embodiments of the systems and methods generate a signal to a cooling system to cool the device when the calculated temperature of the device is higher than a predetermined temperature.

  • Patent number: 7694120
Abstract: A pin strap setting override system comprises logic configured to determine whether a pin strap setting for at least one feature of an integrated circuit (IC) is set to enable, the logic further configured to automatically override the enable pin strap setting if a flag stored in a memory indicates a disable setting for the at least one feature.

  • Publication number: 20100077199
Abstract: Systems and methods of securely updating BIOS are disclosed. One such system comprises a reprogrammable memory, a first and a second register, and comparison logic. The reprogrammable memory comprises a first portion and a protect input. The protect input is configured to disallow writes to at least the first portion when the memory protect input is at a first levels, and to allow writes to at least the first portion when the protect input is at a second level. The comparison logic is configured to drive a comparison output to a third level responsive to the first and second registers having equal values, and to drive the comparison output to a fourth level responsive to the first and second registers having different values. The comparison output is electrically coupled to the memory protect input.

  • Patent number: 7401644
Abstract: Methods and systems for cooling computer systems, in which the computer system has a processor and a fan. An exemplary method includes: determining a temperature threshold for operating the fan at greater than low speed; determining a temperature of the computer system; and throttling the processor if the determined temperature corresponds to the temperature threshold for operating the fan at greater than low speed.

  • Patent number: 6873883
Abstract: A temperature control system for an electronics system minimizes fan noise as much as possible. The system, which may be a computer, is capable of implementing a plurality of temperature control protocols. Each protocol generally specifies fan speed as a function of temperature. When the system initializes, a protocol is selected that, on average, is quieter than at least one other protocol, and preferably all other protocols. The system monitors its own temperature and, if the temperature reaches a threshold, the system causes the initial temperature control protocol to be changed to a different protocol that is better able to cool the system, albeit with a resulting louder sound level.
