  • Patent number: 7094478
Abstract: A vibration damping laminate includes a magnetic layer and an uncoated constraining layer joined by a viscoelastic layer, wherein the modulus of elasticity of the viscoelastic layer is substantially less than that of either of the other two layers. The laminate is magnetically attached to an associated source of vibrations by the magnetic layer, and substantially all vibrational damping is effected by the viscoelastic layer.

  • Publication number: 20020054475
Abstract: A channel-shaped support bracket for a disk drive assembly has a base wall, opposed side walls and flanges respectively extending outwardly from the side walls. The bracket is formed of a laminate of a viscoelastic layer sandwiched between two metal layers for vibration damping. The disk drive assembly has a printed circuit board on one side thereof. The flanges have holes for receiving fasteners to mount the bracket on an associated substrate. The disk drive assembly is mounted with the printed circuit board facing the base wall of the bracket. It may be disposed between the side walls, being either mounted on the side walls and spaced from the base wall or mounted against the base wall, or may be mounted on the opposite surface of the base wall. End walls may be provided extending from the base wall in a direction opposite from the direction in which the side walls extend. Fasteners extend through openings in the walls and may be cushioned with rubber grommets.

  • Patent number: 5407034
Abstract: A disk brake pad assembly includes a rigid metal backing plate, a brake friction lining pad and a damping structure including a viscoelastic material disposed between the backing plate and the friction lining pad and fixed to each. In one embodiment the damping structure is a perforated metal plate having perforations filled with viscoelastic damping material. The damping plate may be provided along its opposite sides with constraining layers. Such a perforated damping structure may be disposed on either side of the backing plate.
