Publication number: 20070275246Abstract: A method for biolithographical deposition of molecules is provided. According to an embodiment of the method, a reactive layer (e.g., a polysaccharide mass) having a surface region coated with a biologically compatible resist is provided. A portion of the biologically compatible resist is selectively removed to expose an exposed portion of the reactive layer. Molecules, such as biomolecules and/or cellular species, are then conjugated to the exposed portion of the reactive layer. Also provided are materials and devices related to the method.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2004Publication date: November 29, 2007Applicant: University of Maryland, College ParkInventors: Gregory Payne, Gary Rubloff, Hyunmin Yi, Rohan Fernandes, Li-Qun Wu, Reza Ghodssi, William Bentley

Publication number: 20070263215Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for validating signals to determine sizes and velocities of spherical objects are described. Light is scattered from a spherical object to form an interference fringe pattern. Portions of the interference fringe pattern are received by photodetectors. In response, the photodetectors generate time varying electrical signals. At least one of the time varying signals is partitioned into timing segments. The timing segments are processed to determine one or more timing parameters. A timing parameter consistency between at least two of the timing segments is verified. At least one of the time varying signals is validated based on the timing parameter consistency. The time varying electrical signal is accepted if a timing parameter difference is less or equal to a predetermined timing parameter error threshold. The time varying electrical signal is rejected if the timing parameter difference is larger than the predetermined timing parameter error threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2006Publication date: November 15, 2007Inventors: William Bachalo, Gregory Payne

Publication number: 20070068824Abstract: A method is provided for electrochemically depositing a polysaccharide mass having a selected physical state. According to an embodiment, an electrically conductive support of a substrate is contacted with an aqueous solution including a selectively insolubilizable polysaccharide, and the selectively insolubilizable polysaccharide is electrochemically deposited on the electrically conductive support while controlling deposition conditions to form the polysaccharide mass having the selected physical state, such as that of a hydrogel. Deposition may be performed in a spatially and/or temporally controlled manner.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2004Publication date: March 29, 2007Inventors: Gregory Payne, Li-Qun Wu, Reza Ghodssi, William Bentley, Gary Rubloff, Hyunmin Yi, Rohan Fernandes, Tianhong Chen, David Small
