  • Patent number: 5546448
Abstract: An interface for modems is described which provides rapid identification of a caller and limited access based on a variety of parameters obtained from caller identification information encoded by the telephone company. The incoming telephone call information is compared to a preprogrammed access matrix to determine if the caller is authorized to access the modem connected to the interface. A telephone call screening method and apparatus which incorporates the encoded caller identification is also described. Finally, a method and apparatus for a telephone database for statistical accounting is described.

  • Patent number: 5000224
Abstract: A hydraulically actuated shut-off valve is controlled by a solenoid actuated control valve. A flow detection unit having a substantially vertical inlet and a substantially vertical flow passage has a substantially horizontal outlet connected to the horizontal inlet of the shut-off valve. A member movable by water flowing through the flow passage actuates a switch forming a part of the flow detection unit. A control box preferably mounted on the flow detection unit has a timer and a reset switch therein which are capable of sending electrical control signals to the solenoid actuator of the control valve. The timer senses the condition of the flow detection switch and upon sensing that the switch has been closed a predetermined period of time suggesting abnormal water flow, possibly due to a leak in the system, sends a signal to the solenoid to actuate the control valve to cause the shut-off valve to close, preventing further water flow.

  • Patent number: 4716605
Abstract: A hydrotherapy system is provided including a hydrotherapy tub with a water circulation pump and motor. Electrical proximity sensor terminals are mounted to the tub on the outside surface, one at a relatively low level for detecting the presence of water in the tub and a second preferably at a higher level for detecting the presence of the user to serve as an "on" and "off" switch which the user can operate by placing his hand in proximity therewith. Neither of the terminals requires physical contact to be actuated. Each is connected to circuit means for establishing the presence of an object in proximity with it and each of the terminals is operatively connected to the pump motor so that the pump motor will operate only when both of the terminals are actuated.

  • Patent number: 4143234
Abstract: A solar collector is constructed of a photoelectric cell mounted within a collector of the total internal reflectance type. The photoelectric cell has the form of a rod of a monocrystalline element or compound with a generally cylindrical junction spaced at a distance radially inwardly from the outer surface of the rod. The photoelectric cell is mounted within a trough shaped collector which is at least partially filled with a transparent solid wherein total internal reflectance of incident radiation increases the effectiveness of the collector.
