  • Publication number: 20180311736
Abstract: In some embodiments, a method of producing a metallic article includes providing a metallic powder, selecting a predetermined concentration for a reactive component, providing a controlled atmosphere including the reactive component at the predetermined concentration, and additively manufacturing the metallic article from the metallic powder under the controlled atmosphere. The metallic powder includes a metallic element or metallic alloy. The reactive component reacts with the metallic powder in a weld pool formed during the additive manufacturing to form a dispersion of nano-particles in the weld pool. The nano-particles are dispersed throughout the metallic article in a substantially uniform manner. In some embodiments, the metallic powder includes the reactive component. Metallic articles formed by the disclosed methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8919177
Abstract: A movable die component for a press device includes a plate body having a workpiece engagement surface configured to engage a workpiece formed by the press device. The plate body has a plurality of internal pockets completely enclosed by the plate body. Optionally, the plate body may be formed by an additive manufacturing process, such as by forming a plurality of direct metal laser sintering layers. The direct metal laser sintering layers may include a lower layer, a plurality of middle layers, and an upper layer with the internal pockets being provided in the middle layers, and with the lower layer covering a bottom of each internal pocket and the upper layer coving a top of each internal pocket.

  • Publication number: 20140302187
Abstract: A powder bed laser sintering (PBLS) device includes a build chamber having a build area defined over a build plate. The build area is bounded by a plurality of walls comprising first and second end walls and first and second side walls extending between the first and second end walls. The build plate is movable relative to the plurality of walls to successively lower in stages. Powder material is layered into the build area at each stage and is selectively subjected to a laser beam to fuse the powder material to form an additional layer of a component at each stage. A powder dam extends between the first and second side walls through the build area. The powder dam holds the powder material between the powder dam and the first end wall.

  • Publication number: 20120184116
Abstract: An interposer includes a substrate having a first surface and a second surface with vias extending between the first and second surfaces. The interposer also includes a contact array mounted to the first surface that has a plurality of coil-shaped contacts. The contacts have heels terminated to corresponding vias. The contacts have beams defining a mating interface of the interposer configured for mating with an electronic component. The contacts may be conic helix shaped. The beams may include at least one turn. The beams may be free standing from the heel and may be compressible along contact axes toward the first surface of the substrate.
