Patent number: 7477973Abstract: A method for estimation of relative coordinates between at least two parts of a system. The method generally includes two main steps: measuring a set of relevant coordinates for each part of the system; and processing each measurement result to estimate the relative coordinates between at least two parts of the system. The system includes a main body and at least one sub assembly. A first sensor A is configured to measure a movement rate of a sub assembly. A second sensor B is configured to measure a movement rate of a main body. A third absolute measurement sensor C is configured to estimate an integrator offset and a drift rate due to the first sensor A bias and due to the second sensor B bias.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2005Date of Patent: January 13, 2009Assignee: Trimble Navigation LtdInventors: Douglas E. Patent number: 5697748Abstract: A semiconductor wafer processing system for processing wafers from a wafer storage cassette includes a wafer transfer chamber; a wafer storage elevator within the transfer chamber; one or more wafer processing chambers; and a wafer transfer apparatus for transferring a wafer between a standard storage cassette adjacent and outside the transfer chamber and the elevator, and between the elevator and the processing chamber. The storage chamber pressure varies between atmospheric when accepting wafers from outside, and a subatmospheric pressure when transferring wafers to or from a processing chamber. The transfer apparatus includes a robot arm; a thin flat wafer carrying blade at the leading end of the robot arm configured for engaging a wafer from the storage cassette or the elevator; and a wafer support tray configured for removable engagement with the blade and for engaging and positively positioning a wafer from the elevator, or a support pedestal within a processing chamber.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1994Date of Patent: December 16, 1997Assignee: Applied Materials, Inc.Inventors: Sasson Somekh, Kevin Fairbairn, Gary M. Kolstoe, Gregory W. White, W. George Faraco, Jr.

Patent number: 5676205Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the temperature of an object, in particular a semiconductor wafer support structure in a wafer processing chamber. A gas gap is created between the two adjacent objects of different temperatures. The pressure in the gap is adjusted to control the thermal conductivity of the gas between the two structures. To have a large heat flow between the two objects so that their temperatures can be closely matched, the pressure is increased. To maintain the temperature of the object sought to be controlled regardless of the temperature of the adjacent item (heat source/sink) the pressure is reduced to a strong vacuum (acting as insulation) so that very little heat flow occurs through the gas gap.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1993Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Assignee: Applied Materials, Inc.Inventor: Gregory W. White

Patent number: 5228208Abstract: After a heated object such as a processed wafer is placed inside a load lock chamber in a vacuum condition, a specified limited amount of vent gas is introduced and the pressure inside the chamber is maintained at an intermediate level for a specified length of time so a to control its thermal gradient. After the specified length of time, the chamber is completely vented. Both software and hardware implementations are possible for this staged vent.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1992Date of Patent: July 20, 1993Assignee: Applied Materials, Inc.Inventors: Gregory W.
