Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, an apparatus (10) and associated method for sorting a plurality of items includes a plurality of sort destinations and a plurality of delivery vehicles (200/400) for delivering items to the sort destinations. Each vehicle (400) includes a surface (406) for supporting items to be delivered and an edge-detection assembly (402,404) for detecting an edge of an item when the item is conveyed onto or discharged from the vehicle. The edge-detection assembly (402,404) includes an emitter for emitting a beam of light toward the surface. The emitter (104) is positioned below the surface so that the beam of light is projected transverse the surface. The emitter edge-detection assembly also includes a plurality of detectors for detecting the beam of light, wherein an object on the surface of the vehicle affects the beam of light received by the detectors.

  • Patent number: 10240285
Abstract: A manufactured hemp product comprising a plurality of adhesively bonded and pressed hemp strands where the majority of the hemp strands are of generally the same length and comprise a naturally-occurring, generally elongate internal structure extending generally along one axis of the strand that has been at least partially laterally broken and at least permeated by an adhesive. The hemp strands are oriented roughly parallel to one another along their length. The manufactured hemp product comprises an amount of adhesive between about 5% to about 49% by weight. The manufactured hemp product can be used as a wood substitute in terms of appearance and performance. The manufactured hemp products may have aesthetic and structural qualities that are suitable for high traffic, high visibility applications such as boards, blocks, beams, panels, flooring, furniture, building materials and other wood products.

  • Publication number: 20170260008
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for sorting items to a plurality of sort destinations. The items are fed into the apparatus at an input station having a scanning station. The scanning station evaluates one or more characteristics of each item. The items are then loaded onto one of a plurality of independently controlled delivery vehicles. The delivery vehicles are individually driven to sort destinations. Once at the appropriate sort destination, the delivery vehicle ejects the item to the sort destination and returns to receive another item to be delivered. A re-induction conveyor may be provided for receiving select items from the vehicles and conveying the items back to the input station for re-processing. Additionally, a controller is provided to control the movement of the vehicles based on a characteristic each item being delivered by each vehicle. The system may also include vehicles having edge-detection assemblies for detecting items being loaded onto or discharged from the vehicles.

  • Patent number: 9560730
Abstract: Free radicals that combine with debris that is created by converting a target mixture to plasma that emits EUV light are received at a first opening defined by a first end of a conduit, the conduit including a material that passes the free radicals and the conduit including a sidewall that extends away from the first opening and defines at least one other opening, the at least one other positioned to release the free radicals toward an element that accumulates the debris on a surface. The free radicals in the conduit are directed toward the at least one other opening. The free radicals are passed through the at least one other opening and to the surface of the element to remove the debris from the surface of the element without removing the element from the EUV light source.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for reduction of recoil in for example a ballistic system. In one embodiment, the ballistic system comprises a firearm such as a rifle or handgun, and the apparatus includes a momentum or energy capture device. • Publication number: 20090126469
Abstract: A method of monitoring the fire resistance of hydraulic fluids involves measuring a property of the hydraulic fluid that changes as the hydraulic fluid is used; relating the measurement to the fire resistance of the hydraulic fluid; and if necessary, taking remedial action in order to improve the fire resistance of the hydraulic fluid. A suitable property is the molecular weight of polymer anti-mist additives such as polymethyl methacrylate and the fire resistance may be improved by adding to the hydraulic fluid, a concentrate of the polymer in a suitable solvent when the measured molecular weight falls below an acceptable value.

  • Patent number: 7478797
Abstract: The opposite plastic walls 20a and 20b can be made from a polymeric resin material such as thermoplastic or thermoset resin, and/or can be made from olefins, styrenes, nylons, or mixtures of these polymeric families. In one aspect, the opposite plastic walls can be formed from an olefin, such as polyethylene or polypropylene, or the like. In another aspect, the opposite plastic walls can be formed from a styrene, such as acrylonitrile or butadiene styrene, or the like. In still another aspect, the opposite plastic walls can be formed from a mixture of olefins and styrenes. The polymeric resin material can also be made from recycled olefin, styrene, or nylon products. It will also be appreciated that the material of the walls can include additives, such as glass, fiber, talc, UV resistive or protective materials, etc. In one aspect, plastic granules of different colors can be combined to obtain a wall color that is a composite color to more readily simulate another material.

  • Patent number: 7464334
Abstract: In an operating system, a resource handler accepts resource requests from application modules. A resource request identifies a module from which the requested resource is to be obtained. Rather than providing the resource from the identified module, however, the resource handler provides the requested resource from an associated resource module. An association between an executable module and resource modules of different languages is created by a defined file naming convention, optionally using different directories for resource modules of different languages. Some executable modules contain a shared resource reference which can be used to create an association between multiple executable modules and a single set of shared resource modules. A language fallback mechanism allows alternative languages to be used where resource modules of the appropriate language are not available.
