  • Patent number: 6257900
Abstract: An electrical connector for use in coupling two printed circuit board comprises an insulative housing and a plurality of contacts. The elongate rectangular housing comprises a bottom wall, two opposite sidewalls and a central projection parallel to and between the sidewalls. A pair of contact receiving slots is defined on both sides of the central projection extending through the bottom wall for receiving the contacts. Each contact includes a base portion, a transition portion and a spring contact arm. The transition portion includes a first horizontal section, a vertical section and a second horizontal section. The transition portion and the spring contact arm form three right angle transitions which provide sufficient resilient to establish a firm electrical connection between the contact and a terminal in a mating connector.

  • Patent number: 6210177
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises an insulative housing and a plurality of terminals. The insulative housing includes a central portion, a pair of side walls and a pair of lateral walls. The central portion defines a plurality of passageways therethrough for receiving corresponding terminals therein. Each terminal comprises a fixing portion, a contacting portion, a slanting portion and a tail portion. The contacting portion is formed at the top end for electrically contacting with a mating connector. The slanting portion slantways extends from the fixing portion with an obtuse angle. A tail portion is formed at the end of the slanting portion. A soldering portion of each terminal is folded at a same plane before soldering on a circuit board. Therefore, after the terminals are assembled to the insulative housing, the soldering portions of corresponding terminals can be arranged with a proper planarity and the quality of solder process is also improved.

  • Patent number: 6210209
Abstract: An electrical connector for connecting a flexible printed circuit (FPC) to a board-mounted connector comprises a dielectric housing, a plurality of generally U-shaped electrical contacts accommodated in the housing and a stuffer mountable to the housing. The housing has a plug portion at one end defining a central portion therein and a receptacle portion at an opposite end defining an elongated channel therein. The contacts laterally straddle the central portion of the plug portion to connect with terminals of the board-mounted connector and are reliably retained by a contact retention structure defined in the central portion. Each contact comprises a curved contacting finger extending into the elongated channel of the receptacle portion. The stuffer is partially inserted into the channel of the receptacle portion to press the FPC against the curved contacting fingers of the contacts situated close to an inner wall of the channel.

  • Patent number: 6210234
Abstract: An electrical connector of the present invention comprises an elongate housing having a pair of side walls, a central wall between the side walls defining a number of chambers in opposite rows therealong, and a pair of slots respectively defined between the side walls and the central wall, and a number of contacts received in the chambers. The contacts each have a base, an arcuate beam depending upwardly from the base, and an engaging beam initially continuing upwardly from the arcuate beam. The engaging beam then bends twice to form a lower curved portion and an upper curved portion. Increasing bends of the top curved portion lessens the yielding of the contact. The lower curved portion reduces normal force provided by the connector. Moreover, the contact is secured by interferentially fitting with a side wall and the central wall of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6206707
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises an insulative housing, a plurality of terminals and a plurality of shield plates. A pair of receiving channels and a plurality of recesses located between the receiving channels is defined through the insulative housing for receiving the terminals and the shield plates, respectively. A plurality of upper ribs and lower ribs is disposed on the inner walls of each receiving channel. Each terminal includes a contact portion, a retention portion, a transverse portion and a soldering tail. Each retention portion has a first retaining section and a second retaining section and the transverse portion establishes a transverse displacement therebetween. A pair of first locking barbs and a pair of second locking barbs are respectively formed on the first retaining section and the second retaining section of each terminal for latching the terminal to the insulative housing.
