Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable media for routing a message service message in a wireless device is disclosed. According to a method, routing messages in a wireless device includes receiving routing preferences from one or more applications operating with a wireless device. The method further includes receiving a message, and routing the message to designated locations for the one or more applications. The locations may include an application or set of applications, or a memory unit associated with one or more applications. Another method includes determining a routing parameter from the message by parsing at least one routing parameter from message content. Routing the message further includes comparing the at least one routing parameter with the routing preferences.

Abstract: A method for subscriber station-based admission control may include determining that there is demand for a new connection at the subscriber station. The method may also include determining whether the new connection should be admitted based on resource availability. The method may also include sending a request for the new connection to a base station if it is determined that the new connection should be admitted.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling access to the data stored on a smart card for use in mobile devices. A user initializes the smart card memory by saving an authentication credential in memory. Subsequently, when various applications executed on the mobile device seek to retrieve the data stored in the smart card memory, the user must submit to an authentication process before access to the data stored in the smart card memory is granted. Embodiments utilize biometric traits and biometric templates stored in memory as authentication credentials. Biometric sensors are provided with the smart card so that a candidate biometric trait can be generated and compared with a biometric template stored in memory. If the biometric trait matches the stored biometric template, then access to the data stored in the smart card is granted.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a capability to backup cellular telephone provisioning information and personal data from a mobile handset on a server. A user initializes an account with a service provider with authentication credentials and backs up provisioning information and personal data stored within a mobile handset to server for safe keeping. The provisioning information and personal data can be accessed via the cellular telephone network so that the provisioning and personal data can be transferred among mobile handsets. This allows a user to restore personal data quickly and easily if a mobile handset replaced, lost or destroyed. The system and method further provide the capability to remotely provision new mobile handsets.

Abstract: A wireless communications device (100) may include an audio-input device (118), a memory (104), a voice-recognition engine (122) and various features which may make use of alphanumeric characters, such as the ability to send electronic messages and to store address information and the like. In one embodiment, the audio-input device (118) receives audio-data and the voice-recognition engine (122) is configured to interpret the audio-data as matching a selected one of a set of alphanumeric characters. The selected alphanumeric character is stored in the memory (104) for subsequent use in the operation of the wireless communications device (100).

A preferred message service is selected from the at least one usable message service.

Annunciators are provided for these applications and are displayed as appropriate to indicate their current status. Certain applications may further be associated with additional menu screens to allow the user to view additional information. In one method, the current status of a particular application supported by the wireless device is initially determined. This application may be voice call handling, data call handling, voice recognition, voice memo, answering machine, or some other application. An annunciator indicative of the current status of the application is then provided, if required. A menu screen with a listing of all items (e.g., missed calls, recorded voice memos, recorded messages, or data calls) may be displayed when requested, and additional information for a selected item may also be provided if requested. The annunciator is cleared if all items are cleared.

Abstract: To provide “transparent” broadcast services for a multi-mode wireless device capable of communicating with multiple wireless communication networks, a composite set of pertinent parameters for broadcast messages used by the multiple networks is defined. The parameters of the broadcast message for each network are mapped to corresponding parameters in the composite set. The composite set of parameters is used for processing and displaying broadcast messages received from the multiple networks. A broadcast message for each network (e.g., a CBS message in GSM or a broadcast SMS message in CDMA) is received and processed in accordance with the parameters of the message and filtering configurations applicable for the network. The parameters of the broadcast message are mapped to corresponding parameters in the composite set. The broadcast message is further processed and displayed based on the parameters in the composite set.
