Abstract: Disclosed is a knife comprising a housing (11) with a blade fixture (12) which can be moved translationally in the longitudinal direction (x) of the housing within a receiving duct (A) of the housing (11). The blade fixture (12) accommodates the knife blade (13) between a first blade contact surface (38) and a second blade contact surface (31) in a closed position while an operator's attachment (14) is assigned to the base (G) and/or the blade locking mechanism (19) in order to translationally move the blade fixture (12). The operator's attachment (14) is retained on the base (G) outside the blade locking mechanism (19).

Abstract: A utility knife for use with a replaceable flat blade, has an elongated housing having a longitudinally extending guide open at the front end, a longitudinally extending and transversely open slot, and a longitudinally extending holding face directed transversely opposite to the stop. A blade holder having a seat for the blade is slidable in the housing between a front use position forwardly bearing on a longitudinally displaceable stop and with the blade projecting longitudinally forwardly from the guide past the front end and a rear storage position with the blade wholly contained in the housing rearward of the front end and the holder out of engagement with the stop. The stop can be secured in any of a plurality of longitudinally offset positions in the housing to adjust the front position of the blade.

The holder is longitudinally shiftable between a use position with the blade projecting from the housing front end and a retracted position with the blade inside the housing. Respective side and rear actuating formations are coupled to the blade holder and exposed at the side and rear cutouts so that the blade can be actuated by a user's fingers via any of the actuating formations. A spring in the housing urges the holder and blade into the retracted position.

A retaining member snugly engaged in and through the aligned apertures holds the halves in the assembled position. A blade between the halves projects longitudinally from the housing halves.
