  • Patent number: 9248540
Abstract: The invention relates to a polishing device (1) for polishing a metal product (2), in particular a continuously cast slab, billet, or block. The aim of the invention is to achieve a high polishing rate when said metal products are polished. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the polishing device (1) has at least two polishing assemblies (3, 4), each polishing assembly (3, 4) having a mounting (5, 6) for a polishing unit (7, 8). A polishing unit has at least one polishing disk (9, 10) and a driving motor (11, 12) that drives the polishing disk (9, 10). The polishing disks (9, 10)arranged such that the rotational axes (A, B) of said disks run parallel to each other.

  • Patent number: 8900035
Abstract: A cast slab having a pair of wide, substantially planar, and opposite side faces and a pair of narrow opposite edge faces, is ground by first orienting the slab with the side and edge faces vertical. Then grinding tools are pressed oppositely and horizontally against opposite wide faces, with the grinders throwing the chips downward. The tools and slab are relatively vertically displaced for the grinding.

  • Patent number: 8708775
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for grinding a continuous casting product (1), in particular a slab, wherein the continuous casting product (1) in the cross-section has a rectangular contour comprising two long sides (2, 3) disposed opposite of each other and two short sides (4, 5) disposed opposite of each other, wherein in a working position (A), in which the continuous casting product (1) rests on a grinding table (6) with one of the long sides (2) thereof, one of the long sides (2) of the continuous casting product (1) is subjected to a surface treatment by means of at least one grinding tool (7).

  • Publication number: 20110281505
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of grinding a continuously cast product (1), in particular a slab, wherein the continuously cast product is of rectangular cross section with two wide side faces (2 and 3) lying opposite one another and two narrow edge faces (4, 5) lying opposite one another, at least the wide side faces (2 and 3) being subjected to a surface treatment by at least one grinding tool (6). In order to be able to achieve a higher quality in the processing of the continuously cast product and to be able to collect the grinding chips in a simpler manner, the invention provides that during the grinding of a wide side face (2 and 3) of the continuously cast product (1), the continuously cast product (1) is positioned by a seat (7) such that a perpendicular (8) to the wide side face (2 and 3) of the continuously cast product (1) forms an acute angle (?) greater than zero degrees with the vertical (V). Furthermore, the invention relates to an apparatus for grinding a continuously cast product (1).

  • Patent number: 5356674
Abstract: Process for applying a coating of ceramic material on a substrate by plasma spraying. The material to be sprayed, which is incorporated in the plasma jet, includes a chemical compound one constituent of which is a non-metallic element from the group N, C, B or from main groups VI or VII of the periodic classification, which decomposes, at least partially, in an inert environment before reaching the melting point and which is present in the solid phase in the applied state. To improve the process so that the chemical compound contained in the material can be applied to the substrate stoichiometrically, i.e., undecomposed, and form an impermeable, adherent, stable coating, the non-metallic element is incorporated in the plasma jet, in addition to the material to be sprayed, in a free form, not bound to a foreign element.
