  • Publication number: 20120283622
Abstract: The invention relates to a dermatological treatment device suitable primarily for treating nail fungus, in particular toenail fungus. The use of a photochemically active substance allows effective control of the fungus by irradiating with light at a wavelength that is relatively harmless to health. Potential technical implementations are possible for setting up the irradiation device, utilizing either a gas discharge lamp or LEDs as the light source. A shoe-shaped optical shielding housing is preferably used, being transparent in the long-wavelength portion of the visible spectrum, and absorptive in the short-wavelength, therapeutic range of the spectrum.

  • Publication number: 20120182758
Abstract: The invention improves the optical transmission of a light guide assembly in an optical illumination apparatus achieved by one or more insulation layers which sheath a rigid or flexible light guide rod of the light guide assembly and/or the coupling of light emitted from a radiation source into the light input surface of the light guide rod is improved by an adapter element. Important for the improved transmission in the light guide rod is a highly viscous liquid layer which is in direct contact with the lateral surface of the light guide rod and which includes a perfluoropolyether, particularly Krytox®, Fombline® or Galden®, e.g. Krytox® 16350.

  • Publication number: 20100290245
Abstract: A liquid light guide 11, 21, 31 which is connected to an irradiation source 23 including a reflector lamp has an irradiation image 12 with a relatively inhomogeneous intensity distribution. The present invention relates to a simple mechanical clamping device to be clamped from outside onto the liquid light guide 11, 21, 31 for impressing a sharp U- or S-shaped curvature thereon. Due to the curvature the intensity distribution of the irradiation image 12 is homogenized at an acceptably low transmission loss of only a few percent.

  • Patent number: 7431467
Abstract: Crime scene lighting devices are used in forensic criminology for illumination and investigation at crime scenes using fluorescence excitation. High radiation powers are required both for white light in the so-called general search and for the criminologically relevant UVA-blue-green range. Moreover, it should be possible for the crime scene investigator to use the forensic lighting device portably and independent from the public power supply. The present disclosure relates to a suitable crime scene light device with a mercury ultra high pressure lamp as the light source, a light guide and terminals for operating the lamp selectively with an accumulator or the public power supply system. A suitable carrier bag, a so-called lorgnette with various longpass filters and a cross-section converter for visualizing shoeprints form useful accessories of the forensic lighting device.

  • Patent number: 6314227
Abstract: A liquid lightguide comprising a tube made out of a fluoropolymer, covered on the inside by a thin amorphous coating layer and closed at both ends by transparent plugs to contain within an optically transparent liquid. This liquid can be an aqueous solution of inorganic salts. The coating layer comprises a solid fluoropolymer, like TEFLON® AF, preferably a mixture of a solid fluoropolymer and a liquid fluoropolymer like a perfluoropolyether. This mixture is more economical and promotes a better adhesion of the layer to the tube, and allows for increased flexibility of the tube and smaller tube diameters. The hydrophobic properties of the mixture in contact with the aqueous solution preserves the coating layer composition and thus its optical properties, thus increasing the lifetime of the lightguide.

  • Patent number: 4149086
Abstract: The specification describes an irradiation device, more particularly for use for causing the polymerization of fillings of resins in dentistry, using radiation in the UVA range which is transmitted from a radiation source via a light guide. The source of UVA radiation is a tungsten incandescent filament lamp with a color temperature of at least 3150.degree. K. and an electrical power of at least 15 Watts. For a defined solid angle, which is not less than 6 sterad, the radiation from the filament of the lamp is collected by an UV reflecting reflector and focussed at a focal point F.sub.1 lying outside the incandescent filament lamp. In the ray path between the filament of the lamp and the focal point F.sub.1 a dielectric thin film reflection filter is provided with a defined angle alpha of inclination .noteq. 0.degree. of the filter normal to the optic axis defined by the incandescent filament and the focal point F.sub.1.
