Patent number: 6381531Abstract: The braking effect in a vehicle is set in the sense of preventing a tendency to lock-up with at least two wheels which are arranged on at least one axle on the right and left and whose motion characteristics are detected. The braking effect on the two wheels is set jointly, with at least two operating modes (select low, select high) being provided; they can be selected depending on the coefficients of friction prevailing on the wheels and/or depending on the vehicle speed. An operating mode is selected according to the value of the prevailing coefficients of friction when there are coefficient of friction differences of a preselectable lower value. As an alternative or in addition, an operating mode is selected according to the detected vehicle speed when there are coefficient of friction differences of a preselectable greater value.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1998Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Günther Schmidt

Patent number: 6079796Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic brake system of a vehicle comprising one wheel brake valve preceding each wheel brake cylinder and one return feed pump connected parallel to each of the wheel brake valves and connected to the suction sides of the wheel brake cylinders. For anti-lock control, the return feed pump is put into operation, and by clocked triggering of a wheel brake valve of a vehicle wheel that is tending to lock, the brake fluid pressure in the wheel brake cylinder of this vehicle wheel is modulated. To realize a traction control device, the invention sets forth a switchover valve in a brake line from the master brake cylinder to the wheel brake cylinder of a driven vehicle wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1998Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Guenther Schmidt, Jurgen Breitenbacher, Hans-Jorg Wolff, Rainer Heinsohn, Andreas Klug, Hermann Kaess, Peter Zeiner

Patent number: 5934767Abstract: An external energy source of a hydraulic motor vehicle power brake system, which has first and second valves that can be electrically controlled to adjust wheel brake pressures for wheel brakes, must be protected from being overloaded. To avoid the necessity for a safety valve, which has been used up to this point for protecting the external energy source, it is proposed that the first valve be embodied as a seat valve having a valve seat connected to the external energy source by means of an inlet opening disposed upstream, having a valve closing body associated with the valve seat, and having a closing spring that presses the valve closing body against the valve seat, which spring is dimensioned as a safety valve spring in a fashion according to the invention. In a reasonably priced manner, the first valve is used as a safety valve that protects the external energy source and on the other hand, for braking procedures, is used as a valve for adjusting wheel brake pressures.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Guenther Schmidt, Hermann Winner, Alain Gaillard

Patent number: 5927824Abstract: A vehicle hydraulic brake system having brake pressure modulation valve assemblies, between a dual-circuit master cylinder and wheel brakes of vehicle wheels. The pump device is embodied as a low-pressure pump with the brake pressure modulation valve assemblies be assigned a first and second return pump and that in the automatic braking mode the first pressure chamber is made to communicate with a first return pump and the second pressure chamber is made to communicate with the second return pump, on the inlet side in both cases. The low-pressure pump, in the automatic braking mode, generates charge pressure for the return pumps that is substantially below a maximum brake pressure, and the return pumps generate the maximum projected brake pressure and serve, in the additionally possible anti-lock mode, to return pressure fluid from the wheel brakes to the master cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Arnold Pahl, Wolf-Dieter Jonner, Norbert Alaze, Helmut Pueschel, Thomas Isella, Guenther Schmidt, Karl-Heinz Willmann, Rolf Hummel, Elmar Mueller, Johann Herr, Roland Holzmann, Guenter Dzierzawa, Martin Moehle, Guenter Krenz, Erika Mank, Hans-Juergen Herderich

Patent number: 5826950Abstract: During ASR control of spinning drive wheels, the pressure level in the wheel brake with the highest pressure level is modulated by driving a switching valve USV which affects the pressure in all the wheel brakes of the brake circuit, whereas the pressure level in the other wheel brake or brakes is controlled by way of wheel-specific inlet and outlet valves. The intake control valve ASV is kept open through the entire ASR control period. As a result, the electrically actuated ASV can be replaced by a hydraulically actuated ASV.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1996Date of Patent: October 27, 1998Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Wolf-Dieter Jonner, Helmut Pueschel, Guenther Schmidt

Patent number: 5551403Abstract: An arrangement limits a fuel supply from a fuel pressure reservoir by way of a controllable injection valve into the combustion space of an internal-combustion engine. The fuel flow is interrupted as a function of the forces applied to a spring-prestressed valve separating piston in the event of an outlet-side pressure drop. A reliable limiting of the maximal injected fuel quantity is achieved by providing a flow-through opening penetrating the separating piston with a closing device. This flow-through opening can be closed as a function of the displacing direction of the separating piston. If the displacing device closes the flow-through opening in the starting position, during the injection phase and in the piston end position, the limiting valve will continuously interrupt the fuel flow in the case of an outlet-side pressure drop.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1995Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: MTU Motoren- Und Turbinen-Union Friedrichshafen GmbHInventor: Guenther Schmidt

Patent number: 5544948Abstract: A travel simulator having a progressive pedal characteristic to be in operation in a power-actuated service brake. The hydraulic brake system has a valve assembly for the switching of the brake system into operation as either a service brake or as an emergency brake. The master cylinder has a pressure fluid reservoir, two pressure chambers, and an intermediate piston as well. The intermediate piston is supported on a travel simulator spring. When the service brake is in operation, pressure fluid can be diverted from the second pressure chamber into the reservoir, and the intermediate piston is moved against the resistance of the spring. When the emergency brake is in operation, both pressure chambers communicate with one another so that the intermediate piston is pressure balanced. When the pedal is actuated, pressure fluid is expelled from the first pressure chamber. The intermediate piston is not subject to any motion during an emergency brake operation. The brake system is for use in road vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Guenther Schmidt, Klaus Schmidt
