  • Patent number: 8195171
Abstract: A method, and a related system, for estimating coverage of a selected geographic area by a cellular radio mobile communications network including a plurality of radio base stations, includes: dividing the selected area into a plurality of area elements and determining expected serving radio base stations expected to serve the area elements based on an estimation of the strength of the radio electromagnetic field of the radio base stations in the area element. The expected serving radio stations are determined by: estimating probabilistic distributions of the strength of the radio electromagnetic fields irradiated by the radio base stations and perceived in the area element; and calculating probabilities that the area elements are served by the radio base stations based on said probabilistic distributions. The method can be exploited in the planning of a network, for example, in the estimation of the distribution of traffic.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 2005
Date of Patent: June 5, 2012
    Assignee: Telecom Italia S.p.A.
Inventors: Antonio Bernini, Paola Bertotto, Stefano Macagno, Guglielmo Tomaselli
  • Patent number: 8140090
Abstract: A method for estimating a territorial distribution of traffic in a selected area of a cellular radio mobile communications network, includes: dividing the selected area into a plurality of traffic-generating area elements; determining overall traffic in respect of said selected network area; and distributing the overall traffic across the plurality of traffic-generating area elements.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 27, 2005
Date of Patent: March 20, 2012
    Assignee: Telecom Italia S.p.A.

  • Patent number: 7031704
Abstract: System for managing the identities of mobile stations roaming between mobile radio networks, operating within a private mobile radio network, constituted by one or more base transceiver stations (BTS; Node B) and by a reference base station controller (BSC; RNC), which realize a normal base station subsystem (BSS; RNS) within the public mobile radio network, characterised in that upon registration of the roaming mobile station (MS), authorized to access the private mobile radio network, the system (VIM) simulates, from the base station subsystem (BSS; RNS) towards the mobile switching center (MSC) of the competent network switching subsystem (NSS), the behaviour of the mobile station, whereto it has associated the identity profile selected from a group of identity profiles held by the operator of the visited network, and in wholly similar form, from the mobile switching center (MSC) towards the base station subsystem (BSS), the system (VIM) simulates the behaviour of the competent network switching subsystem
