  • Patent number: 4545957
Abstract: An analysis system for determining total copper content in waste-water, as from a galvanizing system, comprises periodically taking samples from such waste-water, acidifying such samples with a metalliferous acid containing a metal which forms a strong cyanogen complex and which exhibits a larger electro-negative potential than copper, such as Pd, reducing cupric ions to cuprous ions, adjusting the pH of the resulting sample solution, adding a copper color-forming reagent, such as bathocuprione disulfonic acid salt, and determining the color content by colorimetry. In order to determine a reagent value, a prepared waste-water sample can be subjected to colorimetry before and after addition of the color-forming reagent.

  • Patent number: 4374582
Abstract: A compressed air-actuated valve means useful for attachment to devices used in chemical analysis wherein a piston actuates a suitably positioned slide member in the piston thrust direction. The slide member glides on a base member provided with spaced-apart holes that extend approximately perpendicular to the glide surface of the base member. The holes are connected to one another on the side of the base member facing the slide member via at least one appropriately arranged groove positioned in the slide facing the base member. Intake and discharge nozzles are connected with such holes on the opposite side of the base away from the slide member. The piston is a double-headed piston with each piston head being of a different diameter and each head being positioned at opposite ends of the slide member so that the slide member moves with the piston.

  • Patent number: 4348160
Abstract: A metering syringe for transferring fluid media in predetermined volumes from one container to another container comprised of a unitary structural unit defined by a combination of a piston-burette, a pneumatic drive therefore and a pneumatically-actuated valve means, all operating from a common compressed air source. A double-headed piston of the pneumatic drive is attached to a free end of the piston rod from the piston-burette, with the diameter of the piston-rod being of such size relative to the diameter of the double-headed piston that the two pneumatically effective piston-head surfaces of the double-headed piston differs significantly from one another.

  • Patent number: 4286965
Abstract: A control apparatus for automatically controlling at least the concentration of copper-ions, hydroxyl-ions and formaldehyde-ions in an electroless copper plating bath and independently analyzing, displaying and replenishing the concentration of each such ions whereby a sample for each of the ions is discontinuously removed from the plating bath and diluted with a specific amount of water and, independently of one another, the copper-ion concentration is colorimetrically analyzed, displayed and replenished as needed, the hydroxyl-ion concentration is potentiometrically analyzed, displayed and replenished as needed and the formaldehyde-ion concentration is amperometrically analyzed, displayed and replenished as needed.

  • Patent number: 4283142
Abstract: A two beam alternating light colorimeter is disclosed wherein a light beam passing through a lens system having a shutter is periodically deflected by a pivoting mirror. In a first non-deflecting position of the pivotable mirror a first measuring beam is created which passes through a first measuring cell and is guided to a common photo cell. In a second deflecting position of the mirror a second measuring beam is created which is guided through a second measuring cell to the same photo cell. Signals from the photo cell are connected through a controlled switching element to an analog memory. A computing circuit is provided which connects to an output of the analog memory and also to the photo cell. The switching element connects the first measuring signal to the analog memory when the mirror is in a non-deflecting position and opens when the mirror is in a deflecting position. The computing circuit compares the signals corresponding to the first and second measuring beams.

  • Patent number: 4242301
Abstract: A temperature-controllable automated reaction housing comprised of a reaction chamber and a jacketed column extending upwards from such chamber and including heat-exchange fluid inlet and outlet lines. The reaction chamber projects at least partially into a controllably heated bath means and includes an outlet nozzle at the bottom of such chamber which is controllable by an automatically controllable valve means for selective removal of contents within such chamber.

  • Patent number: 4224281
Abstract: A multiple liquid metering device of the type used in liquid analysis assemblies includes a valve block having an intermediate liquids storage vessel and a moving piston measurement burette. The valve block is provided with a plurality of inlet and outlet nozzles each of which is independently controlled by a valve. Internal passageways in the valve block allow the inlet nozzles to be selectively placed in communication with the burette and the burette to be selectively placed in communication with the intermediate receptacle. Stroke length of the piston and the burette is controlled by a program generator via a piston rod carried perforated disc supplying counting pulses to the program generator in response to activation of the piston motor to move the piston.
