    Abstract: A ventilation system for artificial ventilation of a patient (Pt) includes an inspiratory fluid guide unit (30) that connects a ventilator (1) to a patient-side coupling unit (9). A control unit (4) determines a measure for a net inspiratory volume flow which the ventilator (1) generates and which flows through the inspiratory fluid guide unit (30). Depending on the net inspiratory volume flow, the control unit (4) controls an inspiratory display element (40) on the inspiratory fluid guide unit (30). The actuated inspiratory display element (40) displays two indicators in a visually perceptible manner, namely an indicator for the determined net inspiratory volume flow and an indicator for the direction of flow through the inspiratory fluid guide unit (30).
