    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for processing returned items based on related inventory. In some embodiments, the systems and methods process returns in order to perform some inventory management through return processing. In other embodiments, the systems and methods process returns in a manner that increases a probability that the buyer will exchange the item for another item rather than simply return the item. In some embodiments, the two objectives are combined, such that the return is processed in a manner that facilitates some inventory management, but also increases a probability that the buyer will exchange the item for another item rather than simply returning the item.

Rather than simply return everything to the same location, current inventory is considered in choosing a location for the return, and a suitable return label is sent to the customer.
