  • Publication number: 20190394718
Abstract: Systems and methods for improving network resource allocation are disclosed. The system can determine which user's equipment (UEs) can be reallocated from a first network (e.g., one of the 4G network or the 5G network) to a second network (e.g., the other of the 4G network or the 5G network) to reduce load on the first network. The system can determine which UEs are capable of using each type of network and which services or applications that are suitable for use on each type of network. Due to differences in propagation and penetration distances of various frequency spectrums, the system can also determine which UEs have sufficient signal strength for each type of network. The system can reside on the network, on the UEs, or on both the network and the UE. The system can switch back and forth between multiple networks as conditions, applications, or other factors change.

  • Patent number: 10498774
Abstract: Systems and methods for improved e911 call handling. The system enables users to create multiple categories of callers. When a user makes a 911 (emergency) call, different categories of users receive different treatment. A call from a public safety access point (PSAP), for example, can receive a recorded message or a text message indicating that the user is already connected to a PSAP. A caller on a favorites list may also receive the same, or similar, treatment. General callers, on the other hand, can be sent to voicemail, as is currently the practice for all callers. The system can enable callers to be informed as to why the user is not answering, rather than being sent to voicemail with no explanation. The system can be used to provide this additional information to family members, business contacts, PSAPs, and other important callers.

  • Patent number: 10498692
Abstract: Systems and methods for selectively providing messages to users equipment (UEs) are disclosed. Different types of messages can be associated with different statuses for each UE based on user preferences, network settings, or plan parameters. UEs can be available to receive some types of messages, but not other types of messages, depending on the UE's current connection type, location, or plan parameters. Messages sent to multiple UEs associated with the same service account can be sent based on the availability of each UE to receive the message. Messages are not sent to UEs that are not available to receive that type of message. UEs connected to a common network can enable messaging services to other UEs associated with a common service account or network identity. Messaging services can be available despite each UEs availability to other types of messages.

  • Patent number: 10498893
Abstract: Systems and methods for optimized call handling during e911 calls. Normally, when a user equipment (UE) is connected to a public safety answering point (PSAP)—e.g., is on a 911 call—all incoming calls are automatically routed to voicemail. In contrast, the systems and methods disclosed herein enable calls that were dialed within a predetermined time window of the 911 call to be sent through to call-waiting to enable the user to accept or reject the call. The system can use a “guard timer” to determine whether a call is within the predetermined time window. The system can include a single guard timer for all incoming calls—e.g., “any call made from the UE within the previous X minutes prior to the 911 call.” The system can also include individual guard timers for each call that expire separately relative to the call's proximity to the 911 call.

The system can be used to provide this service to family members, healthcare professionals, PSAPs, and other important callers.

  • Patent number: 10462794
Abstract: In some implementations, an access point may receive a request to select an operating channel for a computing device. The access point may determine that a network service provider is associated with the computing device. The access point may determine that at least one neighboring access point is associated with the network service provider. The access point may determine a channel in an unlicensed spectrum that is used by the at least one neighboring access point. The access point may perform a scan of the unlicensed spectrum that excludes the channel used by the at least one neighboring access point and select the operating channel based at least partly on the scan.

  • Patent number: 10440159
Abstract: Handling supplementary services offered in association with Internet Protocol multimedia services based on particular policies is described. In an example, server(s) can receive, from a first user device, a policy associated with handling one or more communications directed to a particular identifier. The server(s) can subsequently receive a communication from a second user device, the communication being associated with a header identifying the particular identifier as the intended recipient of the communication. The server(s) can determine whether the policy is to be applied to the communication and, based at least partly on determining that the policy is to be applied to the communication, the server(s) can update the header based at least in part on the policy. The server(s) can transmit the communication based at least in part on the header, thereby transmitting the communication pursuant to the policy.
