Abstract: Compounds of the formula (I) ##STR1## optically active isomers thereof, and/or pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are disclosed, wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 3-hydroxypropyl and 4-hydroxybutyl, and wherein R is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## in which R.sup.2, R.sup.3 R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different and are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl. Pharmaceutical preparations employing such compounds and method of using such compounds are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and pharmaceutical composition are disclosed for treating cardiac arrhythmias employing as an active ingredient at least one compound selected from piperidine-2-carboxylic acid-2,6-dimethyl anilide; piperidine-2-carboxylic acid-2,4-dimethyl anilide; piperidine-2-carboxylic acid-2,4,6-trimethyl anilide; and piperidine-2-carboxylic acid-2-methyl-5-chloro anilide.

Abstract: A compound of formula ##STR1## in which m and n are a pair of integers such that m=0 or 1 and n=3-m or m=0, 1 or 2 and n=4-m, R is straight or branched C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 alkyl having a terminal hydroxy group,R.sub.1 is methyl or methoxy,R.sub.2 is methyl or ethyl andR.sub.3 is hydrogen or methyl;or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided, as well as compositions containing these compounds and processes for preparing them. The compounds can be used to produce topical and local anaesthetic effects in mammals and are also useful as heart anti-arrhythmic agents.
