    Abstract: A method is provided for isolating an electrostatic sprayer from an electrically grounded coating product distribution circuit connected thereto. The method includes spraying an electrically conductive coating product, such as water-based paint, from an electrostatic sprayer onto a workpiece passing in adjacent proximity thereby, on command, the sprayer being carried by a maneuverable robot arm. The coating product is supplied from a remote source of supply through at least one distribution circuit connected to the sprayer, the robot arm also carrying an electrically insulative storage tank for the coating product connected to and positioned downstream within the circuit from a length of electrically insulative conduit. This insulative conduit includes a cleaning mechanism for cleaning a portion, including all, of the length of conduit, in situ, after filling of the storage tank with coating product and before spraying.

    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for controlling both the high voltage and turbine speed in a rotary atomizer used in the electrostatic spray coating of a workpiece such as an automotive vehicle. A rotary bell cup spray atomizer carried by a maneuverable robot arm is charged to a high voltage potential which charges the atomized particles exiting the bell cup. The bell cup is rotatably driven by a turbine. The voltage to and speed of the atomizer, respectively, are regulated by a high voltage multiplier and a fiber optic transceiver. A low voltage electrical source remote from the robot arm assembly powers the voltage multiplier and the transceiver, both housed adjacent the atomizer, via two shielded, low-voltage, electrical cables extending from the low voltage source to the housing. One of the electrical cables connects to the multiplier to regulate the voltage applied to the atomizer.

    Abstract: A pull-out resistant connector assembly for connecting a fluid supply tube to a fluid handling device is provided. The assembly includes a connecting nut connected to an annular fitting, the nut and fitting securing the tube therebetween. The connecting nut has, within it and extending therearound, a projection having an internal circumferential sharp-edged ridge. The nut is connectable to and over the annular fitting. At its proximal end the fitting has an outside diameter such that the tube is slidable thereover, and the fitting tapers along its length from the outside diameter at its proximal end thereof to a larger outside diameter at its distal end. The fitting has an external projection having an external, circumferential sharp-edged ridge formed therearound.

    Abstract: A powder paint canister assembly includes a canister body having a color changer manifold, a purge ring, and at least one venturi pump attached thereto. The canister body interior includes a fluidization plate and a fluidization distribution plate adjacent a preferably oval inlet to the venturi pump for supplying powder material from the canister. The color changer manifold includes a plurality of manifold modules each having two pinch valve assemblies with quick disconnect inlet fittings for supplying powders of different colors. The purge air ring supplies purge air to the canister through a plurality of apertures of different orientations.
