  • Patent number: 4118404
Abstract: A process for producing novel alkanol amide compositions of low melting point is disclosed. It involves reacting alkanol amines with esters whose acyl groups include some groups with a positioned alkyl group side chains containing two or more carbon atoms. The novel alkanol amide compositions produced in the process exhibit useful and valuable properties particularly when used in combination with various detergents in aqueous washing solutions as set forth herein.

  • Patent number: 4066687
Abstract: .alpha.,.alpha.'-carboxyalkoxy succinic acids and salts thereof are described in which the carboxyalkoxy radicals contain from 2 to about 7 carbon atoms and which are useful as sequestrants and in which the carboxyalkoxy radicals contain from about 8 to about 30 carbon atoms and which are useful as lubricant additives, sizing agents for paper and textiles, and the like. A method is disclosed for sequestering polyvalent metal ions using .alpha.,.alpha.'-carboxyalkoxy succinic acid or salts thereof. A method for sequestering polyvalent metal ions is disclosed using .alpha.,.alpha.'-carboxyalkoxy succinic acid or salts thereof in combination with a surfactant.

  • Patent number: 4031143
Abstract: It is disclosed that a process wherein a reducible compound is reduced by an addition reaction to aluminum dihydrocarbon dihydrides of sodium, potassium or lithium followed by hydrolysis to remove the aluminum is improved by subjecting to oxidation with molecular oxygen the product from the aluminum addition prior to the hydrolysis operation. The intervening oxidation operation converts al--R bonds in the addition product into al-O-R bonds, R being hydrocarbon, preferably alkyl, the result being that upon hydrolysis an alcohol is produced from those groups rather than a hydrocarbon. The by-product alcohol thus produced is easier to dispose of without serious ecological disadvantages which is a significant improvement over the situation that exists when hydrocarbon is released.

  • Patent number: 4010248
Abstract: This invention relates to the preparation of alkali metal aluminum dihydrocarbon dihydrides and in particular to such compounds of sodium, potssium or lithium having hydrocarbon radicals containing from 2 to about 30 carbon atoms per radical. Such dihydrocarbon materials, as typified by sodium aluminum diethyl dihydride, and by the potassium or lithium counterparts, either singly or in mixtures with respect to alkali metals and hydrocarbon groups, are soluble and useful in inert aromatic hydrocarbon solvents and have excellent mild reducing properties for various functional groups such as carbonyl groups in various organic compounds.

  • Patent number: 4010187
Abstract: This invention relates to the preparation of alkali metal hydrides and of alkali metal aluminum dihydrocarbon dihydrides and in particular to such compounds of sodium, potassium or lithium having in the case of the dihydrocarbon compounds hydrocarbon radicals containing from 2 to about 30 carbon atoms per radical. Such dihydrocarbon materials, as typified by sodium aluminum diethyl dihydride, and by the potassium or lithium counterparts, either singly or in mixtures with respect to alkali metals and/or hydrocarbon groups, are soluble and useful in inert aromatic hydrocarbon solutions and have excellent mild reducing properties for various functional groups such as carbonyl groups in various organic compounds. The alkali metal hydrides are useful in many known ways such as in condensation and alkylation reactions and as chemical intermediates such as in the preparation of the alkali metal aluminum dihydrocarbon dihydrides.
