  • Patent number: 8048481
Abstract: There is disclosed a method for the manufacture of coating or doctoring blades, wherein an elastomeric wear-resistant material at the blade tip is provided in a continuous process. During the manufacturing, the thickness of the applied elastomeric material is determined by winding the blade (containing the applied polymer composition) into a coil before the applied composition is fully cured. Successive turns of the coil are separated by a distance which is smaller than the initial thickness of the applied composition, such that the only partly cured composition is deformed by adjacent turns of the coil into the desired thickness and/or shape.

  • Publication number: 20050172889
Abstract: A coating blade for the application of coating color onto a travelling web, the blade having an edge section with a profile conformed to the surface of the web when in engagement therewith is provided. The coating blade is characterized by a sacrificial layer covering at least the edge section and protecting the underlying edge section during the web loading phase. The invention also relates to a method of preparing a coating blade by applying a film forming solution onto an edge section of the blade, and allowing the solution to dry so as to form a solid film.

  • Patent number: 6733834
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a coating or doctoring blade comprising a band of steel or other form-stable material and a wear-resistant polymer coating applied on said band along a longitudinal edge section thereof subjected to wear, said process comprising the following steps: (a) providing continuous relative movement between said band and an application and treatment station; (b) continuously applying at said station a fast-curing polymer composition along said edge section; (c) allowing the applied composition to spread out so as to reach the very extreme of said edge section and then to cure to form an elastic and tacky-free coating; and, optionally (d) post-curing the coating at an increased temperature; as an alternative to such process there can be used a blade of double width compared to said first band and continuously supplying a fast-curing composition along a longitudinal central section of double width compared to said edge section and longitudinally cutting said second band along the middle

  • Patent number: 4956478
Abstract: This method which involves reacting maleic anhydride and .alpha.-olefins in an autoclave at about 200.degree.-250.degree. C. gives particularly good results and produces alkenyl-succinic anhydrides which need not be purified by distillation when using, as the starting .alpha.-olefins, dodecene containing a substantial amount of tetradecene.

  • Patent number: 4624971
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing an abrasion resistant UV curable photopolymerizable composition for coating substrates. The process involves dense grafting and comprises hydrolyzing in an aqueous acidic solution a trialkoxysilane to render it organophillic followed by dispersion with fine silica or alumina. Grafting of the hydrolyzed trialkoxysilane to the silica or alumina is effected through dehydration. The grafted material is then dispersed into intimate contact with one or more photopolymerizable monomers and photoinitiators.

  • Patent number: 4482656
Abstract: Mineral charge particles of silica or alumina are grafted with a hydrolysis product from a di- or trialkoxysilane whose functional group is compatible with an organic phase into which said grafted particles are ultimately incorporated. The grafted particles are separated from the aqueous hydrolysis medium by spray-drying. The organic phase comprising the grafted mineral particles is used to provide coatings with abrasion resistant properties.

  • Patent number: 4332964
Abstract: Diacrylate and dimethacrylate esters corresponding to the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R' are hydrogen or methyl and A is either a sigma (.sigma.) bond; a (CH.sub.2).eta. radical where .eta. is an interger that may vary from one through four; or phenylene, or an alkyl derivative thereof. The new adamantane containing difunctional olefinic monomers can then be polymerized, or copolymerized with other acrylic type olefinic monomers to produce polymers with unusual physical properties, including unusual hardness, inertness to degradable agents, and resistance to heat.
