    Abstract: A process for manufacturing a pair of seal members (10 and 12) such as a pair of disks which control the fluid flow of a faucet. The two seals are formed of a moderately hard material (14), such as stellite, ceramic materials, metal materials or synthetic materials, which can be precisely ground to a particular finish. At least one of the seal members (10) is coated with a thin layer (16) of very hard material such as silicon carbides, metal carbides, metal nitrides, or cubic crystallographic lattice carbons. The coating layer is applied through either physical or chemical vapor deposition. This process provides seal disks with low friction coefficients thereby eliminating the need to provide a lubricant between the cooperating surfaces of the disks. In addition, adhesion between the seals is eliminated despite the smooth surface finish of the disks. Thus, the disks formed through the process improve operation of the faucet or valve utilizing cooperating seal disks.

    Abstract: A method of securing a flange ferrule to the end of a flexible tube having an exterior diameter slightly smaller than the interior diameter of the ferrule, comprises positioning the flange ferrule over the end of the flexible tube and aligning the flange at the end of the ferrule with the end of the tube, placing a flange clamp bushing which has an outer diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the tube into the tube and aligning a flange of the clamp bushing with the flange of the ferrule and, thereafter, expanding the clamp bushing outwardly into engagement with the wall of the tube. Before the outward expansion of the clamp bushing is effected, the clamp bushing and the ferrule are positioned in a matrix which has a receiving cavity with an outline conforming to the flange ferrule and the tube end and the clamp bushing.

    Abstract: A valve system for controlling the water supply to at least one discharge line comprises a housing having an inlet passage, with at least one discharge passage spaced from the inlet passage and with both passages connecting into a flow control chamber. A closure member is movable in the flow control chamber and it has respective opposite closing surfaces adjacent the respective ends thereof and it is guided in the housing control chamber by a guide ring. The guide ring has an annular seat surface at each end which are cooperable with the respective closing surfaces. A tubular screen is arranged coaxially with and surrounds a portion of the control member, and when the closure surfaces are moved off the valve seats, the flow from the inlet around a closure member and through the screen to an electromagnetic valve flow passage may be carried out. Flow through the electromagnetic valve flow passage is controlled by an electrically operated valve.
