  • Patent number: 6986373
Abstract: An automobile pneumatic tire comprises a multiple-ply carcass extending in-between two bead rings having allocated bead fillers, a belt arrangement between the plies of the carcass and a tread strip, and rubber reinforcement plies in the sidewall sections assuming a supporting function where the tire is deflated. A first rubber reinforcement ply is inside a first ply of the carcass, a second rubber reinforcement ply is between the first ply of the carcass and the second ply of the carcass, and a third rubber reinforcement ply is between the second ply of the carcass and a third ply of the carcass. The three rubber reinforcement plies extend down with their ends staggered in relation to each other from the bead core area to the edge area of the belt ply. The three rubber plies have different heights in radial direction and different thickness over the height of the sidewall.

  • Patent number: 6536494
Abstract: Pneumatic vehicle tires comprising a carcass which extends between two bead rings, a belt arrangement provided between the carcass and a tread strip, and also rubber reinforcing plies arranged in the sidewall regions, which adopt a supporting function when the tire is deflated, are characterized in that a single rubber reinforcing ply is arranged radially within a first carcass ply and its maximum thickness is disposed in the upper half of the sidewall height; with the rubber reinforcing ply extending from the bead apex region up to and beneath the edge region of the belt ply, and with the bead apex, which extends approximately up to the half sidewall height, being surrounded by the first carcass ply.

  • Patent number: 6510883
Abstract: The invention relates to pneumatic tires for a motor vehicle comprising a multi-layer carcass. Said multi-layer carcass extends between two bead rings, a set of bracing plies provided between the layers of the carcass and a tire tread, and rubber reinforcement layers arranged in the side wall areas which support the tire when it is deflated. The invention is characterized in that a first rubber reinforcement layer is arranged radially within a first carcass layer and a second rubber reinforcement layer is arranged between the first carcass layer and a second carcass layer. The two rubber reinforcement layers extend from the bead filler area to a position under the edge area of the bracing plies. The two rubber layers vary in thickness across the height of the side walls.

  • Patent number: 6106005
Abstract: A side impact protection device for an occupant of a vehicle has an installation module including at least a housing, a gas generator, and a gas bag. The module is mounted on a door interior panel, with an outlet opening for the inflated gas bag being provided on an upright wall section of door trim located in front. For improved utilization of the existing door cavity and to achieve a rigid connection between the housing and the door interior panel, the housing has a trough-shaped receiving section for the gas generator, an expulsion channel located in front for the gas bag, and a panel-shaped mounting section. The receiving section passes through a recess in the door interior panel and penetrates into the door cavity located behind.

  • Patent number: 6086091
Abstract: A side impact protection device in the form of an inflatable gas bag for an occupant of a motor vehicle includes an outlet opening located on a vertical wall section of a trim part located in front, said opening being closed by a cover when the gas bag is in the resting position. The cover consists of an external frame part fastened to the adjoining trim part and at least two lid halves that are connected integrally with the external frame part. The pivotable lid halves are provided with a decorative covering on the side facing the passenger compartment. The covering has a tear seam located in front of the common connecting area of the lid halves.

  • Patent number: 5681886
Abstract: A rubber mixture vulcanizable with sulphur, a tire tread manufactured from it and also tires with a vulcanized tread are proposed. The rubber mixture contains in each case 100 parts by weight of elastomers, 20 to 80 parts by weight of a copolymer of conjugated diene and vinyl aromatic compound with very low long chain branching manufactured by solution polymerization in a hydrocarbon solvent, 10 to 50 parts by weight of polybutadiene with very low long chain branching, 10 to 30 parts by weight of polyisoprene with a 3,4 bond content of 50 to 70% by weight and 30 to 100 parts by weight of silica as filler material. Through the special combination of the three elastomers with silica as a filler material one obtains an easily processable mixture which leads to vulcanized tire treads with improved grip on wet and dry surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5201399
Abstract: Apparatus for reorienting books or like objects, for example from a vertical to a horizontal orientation, while the products are continuing to move along a conveying system. The apparatus comprises a transfer device which defines a clamping space into which the moving object is delivered, the transfer device being rotatable between the first and second orientations while object movement continues, the clamping action being releasable when the second orientation is reached so that the object can be fed onto a downstream conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4491448
Abstract: In a book binding machine, covers are individually brought into registration with and subsequently adhesively bonded to moving book blocks. The registration is accomplished by first moving the covers along a path parallel to the path of motion of the blocks at a speed which is slower than the blocks and then engaging the covers by an alignment mechanism which at the time of engagement moves in synchronism with the book block as the block overtakes the cover. The alignment mechanism travels about a circular path so as to periodically intercept a moving cover and is resiliently braked when synchronized movement with a book block is established.

  • Patent number: 4100639
Abstract: Paper jackets are automatically applied to hard cover books in a manner which provides a good fit between the jacket and book and insures against the jacket folds slipping free of the book covers during or immediately subsequent to jacket application. The books are supported with the covers opened outwardly, a jacket sheet is draped over the spine of the book, the jacket material is urged downwardly simultaneously from both sides so as to tightly conform to the book and the opposite edge portions of the jacket sheet are folded around the front edges of the book covers while applying heat to thereby define jacket flaps which slide inwardly when the book covers are reclosed.
