  • Patent number: 7478664
Abstract: A method for semi-endless or endless rolling by casting a metal strand, especially a steel strand, which is cut to length as required after solidification, wherein the cut lengths of cast strand are fed into a roller hearth furnace for heating and homogenizing at rolling temperature and are then fed at rolling temperature into a rolling mill to be rolled out. The continuous casting is continued without interruption during the rolling operation, and a sufficient buffer time for a roll change is maintained in the rolling mill. For carrying out a roll change, the casting rate is reduced as a function of the feed rate of the rolling mill and/or the roll-changing time, and/or the buffer length of the roller hearth furnace, and/or the final rolled thickness after the strand has been cut to length.

  • Patent number: 7152661
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and casting roller plant for the semi-endless or endless rolling by casting of a metal, in particular a steel strip (1a), which may be transversely separated as required after solidification. The casting strip part lengths (20) are fed to a roller furnace (2) for heating and equilibration at the rolling temperature and the partial lengths (20) for rolling out are fed to a rolling train (3) for rolling, whereby the strip casting is continued uninterrupted during the rolling operation. According to the invention, a closer matching of the strip casting and the rolling can be carried out, whereby the casting speed (Vc) is reduced for a roller change such that between the end of rolling a preceding multiple length (21) and the insertion of a new partial length (20) or multiple lengths (21) into the rolling gear a sufficient buffer time for a roller exchange is provided.

  • Publication number: 20040025312
Abstract: The invention relates to a casting roll for casting and/or supporting a cast strand, in particular for a two-roll casting machine Said casting roll comprises a water cooling system, in which the cooling water is supplied and discharged in cooling channels (8), formed by cooling bores or grooves that are distributed over the periphery of the roll and a pressure chamber (10), which borders a roll casing (5) and is connected in an adjustable manner to a hydraulic fluid source. The casting roll prevents a superelevation of the profile and the formation of a wedge-shape over a significant section of the length of the casting roll, as the internal diameter of the roll casing (5) increases, starting from sealing elements (15) up to the centre of the roll and the hollow chamber (16) can be impinged by the hydraulic fluid in order to modify the profile.

  • Patent number: 5613548
Abstract: A continuous casting plant for casting thin slabs includes an electromagnetic decelerating unit for the molten steel which flows into the mold through a submerged casting pipe. The electromagnetic decelerating unit is composed of a coil with a ferromagnetic core arranged on each of the long sides of the mold and a yoke surrounding the mold. The cores on the long sides of the mold each are composed of a principal core and a partial core on the side of the cast strand, wherein different partial cores can be used as desired for adapting the magnetic field to changing casting conditions.

  • Patent number: 5339887
Abstract: A continuously cast steel strip which consists of a solidified casting shell and a liquid core is reduced in thickness in a roll deformation and is then rolled. In order to avoid undesired fluctuations in thickness, to improve the structure and to simplify the roll deformation unit, a steel strip billet of 40-80 mm thickness is cast, roll deformed to 15-40 mm thickness having a 2-15 mm residual liquid core in a maximum of three steps. The roll deformed billet is then guided to complete solidification.

  • Patent number: 5222546
Abstract: A plant for manufacturing steel strip in which the steel strip case in a mold is conducted into a horizontally arranged straightening conveyor and subsequently into a temperature equalizing furnace. For avoiding lateral deviations of the steel strip in the temperature equalizing furnace, an aligning station for the steel strip is arranged between the straightening conveyor and the temperature equalizing furnace.

  • Patent number: 4969506
Abstract: A method for the sequential casting of steel strip in steel strip casting equipment wherein under normal operating conditions a steel melt is fed through a pouring tube having discharge ports into the pouring area of a cooled ingot mold at a location below the surface of the melt in the mold and is thereafter removed from the mold in the form of steel strip by the combined operation of mold oscillation means and strip discharge means. After the feed of melt is interrupted, anchoring rods are partially longitudinally immersed into the melt laterally of the pouring area of the mold, and the surface of the melt in the mold is lowered to a level below the pouring area. After a desired interval, the melt feed is continued, and the level of the surface of the melt in the mold is allowed to rise above the discharge ports of the pouring tube. Thereafter, casting flux is applied to the surface of the melt, and the operation of the mold oscillation means and the strip discharge means is resumed.

  • Patent number: 4590986
Abstract: A roller guide for use in a continuous casting installation for steel is divided into segments. Each segment includes a fixed guide member which rests on a base and a movable guide member which is supported by the fixed guide member. The guide members carry rollers which cooperate to define a path for a continuously cast steel strand. The fixed guide member has a series of hollow columns which are aligned with respective tubular elements provided on the movable guide member. Spacers for adjusting the distance between the rollers are disposed between the columns and tubular elements. A tie rod extends through each column and has a first end located externally of but adjacent to the respective column. The first end of each tie rod has a passage which registers with a corresponding passage in the base. Each pair of registering passages receives a locking pin. The locking pins connect the tie rods to the base and indirectly connect the fixed guide member to the base via the tie rods.
