    Abstract: A unitary filter medium that is composed of a sheet of porous substrate that has bonded to its upstream surface a plurality of separate spaced apart islands of flock fibers, the fibers of adjacent islands at least partially overlapping. The flock fibers are bonded by calotte shaped adhesive structures to the substrate so as to form porcupine-like arrays.
