Patent number: 6352146Abstract: A clutch between the combustion engine and the manual multiple-gear-ratio transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle is disengaged or otherwise adjusted in response to a signal from a control unit which processes signals transmitted by sensors serving to monitor the positions and/or the extent of movements of one or more mobile components of the manual transmission. A signal to disengage or to otherwise adjust the clutch is generated when the monitored position(s) of and/or the magnitude(s) of force(s) acting upon one or more mobile components indicate that the operator of the motor vehicle intends to shift the transmission into or from a selected gear ratio.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2000Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: LuK Getriebe-Systeme GmbHInventors: Wolfgang Eismann, Michael Salecker, Gunter Jürgens

Patent number: 5715843Abstract: The diameters of successive rod-shaped articles of the tobacco processing industry are ascertained while the articles advance sideways at the periphery of a rotary drum-shaped conveyor and are rotated about their longitudinal axes as a result of frictional engagement with a rolling member which is adjacent the periphery of the conveyor. Successive articles which are being rotated by the rolling member are caused to interrupt a beam of radiation issuing from a laser, either once or more than once, and the amounts of intercepted radiation are indicative of the diameters of the respective articles. Such amounts of intercepted radiation are monitored by a video camera which generates electric signals, and the electric signals are processed into second signals denoting the diameters of discrete successively tested articles and/or the average diameters of series of two or more successively tested articles.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1996Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Assignee: Hauni Maschinenbau AGInventors: Siegfried Hapke, Gunter Jurgens, Dierk Schroder, Uwe Westphal

Patent number: 5172602Abstract: A method for the automatic shifting of a multi-path toothed-wheel gear change box between two gears which are formed in a first gearbox subunit temporarily engages a middle gear formed in a second, parallel gearbox subunit. It is simultaneously ensured, by control of the working pressures for actuating the power-shift clutches connecting the gearbox subunits to the input shaft, that the speed characteristic of the input shaft shifting is essentially steady without remaining at the middle gear speed value.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1991Date of Patent: December 22, 1992Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Gunter Jurgens, Gerhard Wagner, Frank Tietze

Patent number: 5063510Abstract: In a process for adaptive control of an internal-combustion engine or of another drive component of a motor vehicle, a set value/actual value comparison of a critical time interval with regard to an optimum operating behaviour is triggered upon each non-steady operating state. Set values and correction values for influencing a casual controlled variable with regard to the operating behaviour are assigned to selected operating points of the internal-combustion engine in the form of stored characteristic maps. If appropriate, the correction values are replaced by new correction values, determined according to a deviation. If the non-steady operating state occurs at a non-selected operating point, intermediate values for set value and correction value are interpolated.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1989Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Gunter Jurgens, Udo Surig, Lothar Lang

Patent number: 5010986Abstract: In a brakeband, two side bands extend from a connecting portion in one circumferential direction and a middle band located axially between these side bands extends from it in the other circumferential direction. The band ends of the two side bands (located opposite the connecting portion) are widened in the direction of the middle band, while the middle band is narrowed at its circumferentially corresponding band region. This provides a larger cross-section for the welded joint between the respective widened band ends of the two side bands and a circumferentially adjacent thrust piece of the brake actuating device.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1989Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Gunter Jurgens, Jurgen Pickard, Werner Sell

Patent number: 4942785Abstract: In an arrangement for the automatic shifting of an epicyclic speed change transmission, a relatively quickly performed smooth selection operation in starting is achieved by the speed change transmission taking the form of a group gear divided into two transmission sections. In a first selection phase, the one transmission section is stalled with uncoupling from the drive motor and the transmission section connected to the output shaft is held in the driveless state. On reaching the stalled state, the torque transmissibility between the drive motor and output shaft is restored with a smooth flat rise beginning from zero, by pressure control in the shift actuators concerned.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1988Date of Patent: July 24, 1990Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventor: Gunter Jurgens

Patent number: 4823645Abstract: An arrangement for adjusting the torque of an internal combustion engine which drives a change-speed gear box and automatic gear changing device in dependence on stored characteristics with specified variation of required torque value as a function of power demand in which at least two different gears are each associated with an individual stored characteristic. Switch-in signals, derived from the gear changing device and which initiate switching of a stored characteristic into an adjustment element which influences the torque, contain information on a gear to be selected. Engine power is at least approximately constant for each engine operating point in engine characteristic field when changing between two associated stored characteristics for the required torque value. An adjustment element is controlled by the switch-in stored characteristic until the gear changing device switches to the gear having a different associated stored characteristic.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1987Date of Patent: April 25, 1989Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Hermann Gaus, Gunter Jurgens, Albrecht Greiner

Patent number: 4629042Abstract: A drive arrangement is provided for a motor vehicle in which a hydrodynamic torque converter is installed in the transmission between an engine and a handshift gear box. The hydrodynamic torque converter is equipped with a stop clutch which is responsive to the rotational velocity of the torque converter. The stop clutch engages when the engine and the torque converter are stopped. After the engine is started, the stop clutch automatically unlocks the component parts of the torque converter, thereby allowing relative rotational movement of the engine crankshaft and the vehicle gearshaft. This arrangement provides a parking brake effect when the gearbox is shifted into a gear.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Hermann Gaus, Gunter Jurgens, Eberhard Frotschner, Winfried Rub

Patent number: 4464955Abstract: A control arrangement for an automatic change-speed transmission which is series-connected with an output of a driving engine. A gearshift control slide valve, a manually operable range selection control slide valve, and a gear-holding control slide valve operating in dependence upon a modulating control pressure related to the torque of the driving engine are connected in such a manner that the gearshift control slide valve is held in a position for a higher gear if the driving engine is in an idling position and the range selection control slide valve is in a position for a forward gear range. A downshift control member, operable by a control linkage of a power control of the driving engine affects the modulating pressure to be made effective at the gear-holding control slide valve in such a manner that, upon operating the control linkage from an idling position, the gear-holding control slide valve and gearshift control slide valve are brought into their positions for the lowest gear.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1980Date of Patent: August 14, 1984Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Klaus Martin, Gunter Jurgens, Hermann Gaus
