  • Patent number: 11640252
Abstract: A data storage device includes a memory device, an internal power supply, and a controller. When the data storage device is in an idle power state, the controller is configured to electrically isolate the data storage device from an external power source and draw power from the internal power supply to perform data storage operations. The power utilized for the data storage operations while the data storage device is in the idle power state may be exclusively from the internal power supply or a mixture of the internal power supply and the external power supply. The total power utilized during the idle power state is less than a threshold that is relative to the active power of the data storage device or at a fixed value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 18, 2021
Date of Patent: May 2, 2023
    Assignee: Western Digital Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Daniel J. Linnen, Gunter Knestele, Kirubakaran Periyannan, San A. Phong

  • Patent number: 11182258
Abstract: Example peer storage systems, storage devices, and methods provide data rebuild across a peer communication channel using dynamic work allocation. A rebuild coordinator among the peer storage devices identifies peer storage devices including data units for the rebuild operation. The rebuild coordinator determines work profiles for the peer storage devices and uses the work profiles to determine the rebuild queue for the data units. The data is rebuilt according to the rebuild queue using the data units from the peer storage devices.

  • Patent number: 10067881
Abstract: A storage device that maps logical addresses to physical addresses includes a memory that stores machine instructions and a processor coupled to the memory that executes the machine instructions to store a compressed mapping table in the memory. The compressed mapping table correlates logical addresses to locations in a storage. The storage device also stores a bundle of uncompressed mapping table entries starting at a first location in a cache and maps a first logical address associated with the uncompressed mapping table entry to the first location.

  • Patent number: 9792069
Abstract: A method for managing a flash storage system includes reading flash data units from flash memory into a buffer, wherein each of the flash data units includes host data units, and determining an identifier for each host data unit. The method includes selecting a set of unique identifiers from the determined identifiers based on a number of host data units sharing the respective unique identifier. For each unique identifier in the set of unique identifier, the method includes designating one of the host data units as a master data unit, wherein the logical address of the designated host data unit is mapped to a physical address. The logical addresses of the other host data units sharing the unique identifier are remapped to the master physical address, and the physical addresses previously mapped to the remapped logical addresses are invalidated.
