  • Patent number: 6010197
Abstract: A hub for aligning a plurality of spokes on a spoked wheel. The hub has a cylindrical hub sleeve and a hub axis extending centrally through the hub sleeve. The hub includes a flange-type hub head disposed at one end of the hub sleeve and extending circumferentially about the hub axis. The hub head defines a plurality of guide slots, each of the plurality of spoke guide slots being dimensioned and configured to receive and orient each of the plurality of spokes along a radial plane of the hub head such that the plurality of spokes define a plurality of tangent lines around an imaginary circle centered at the hub axis and that the tangent lines form a polygon centered at the hub axis.

  • Patent number: 5445573
Abstract: For free shifting in a multi-speed gear hub comprising a claw clutch, first and second springs are included for preloading a projecting claw part in mutually opposite directions. Preloading in the second direction is with less force than in the first direction, for abutment of the claw part on a driving member. Against the force of the first spring, the driving member is displaceable from abutment, into all gearshift positions following in the second direction. Gears preselected with stationary hub are engaged upon resumption of gear action.

  • Patent number: 5443279
Abstract: On a multispeed bicycle wheel hub with a sun and planet gear mechanism having at least two multistage planet wheels, the planet wheels are each constructed of two parts, with a first planet wheel part having a rolling gearing segment forming one planet wheel stage and a clutch gearing segment having a clutch outside circumference gearing, as well as a second planet wheel part having at least one rolling gearing segment, each forming a planet wheel stage, as well as a receptacle opening for the clutch gearing segment of the first planet wheel part, which receptacle opening is equipped with a clutch inside circumference gearing which is engaged in the clutch outside circumference gearing. The second planet wheel part is formed by a sintered part, and the first planet wheel part is formed by a machined part, whereby the clutch outside circumference gearing has the same number of teeth and gear rim orientation as the clutch outside circumference gearing.

  • Patent number: 5399128
Abstract: A multi-speed drive hub for bicycles includes a hub shaft (1), a driver (7), a hub sleeve (9), as well as a planetary gear train (21) as part of the hub speed-changing transmission. The planetary gear train in turn has a planet gear carrier (17); at least one multistep planet gear (23); sun gears (25) meshing with the steps of the planet gear (23), which sun gears are selectively capable of being linked with the hub shaft (1) against rotation and an internal gear (11). Also provided are a coupling or clutching mechanism for coupling the driver with the planet gear carrier or with the internal gear as well as a speed-changing mechanism for the hub speed-changing transmission. In order to achieve quiet, low-wear running, the planet gear carrier (17) is mounted in a manner capable of rotation at the hub shaft on both sides of the planet gears (23).

  • Patent number: 5392668
Abstract: An actuating mechanism for a multispeed cycle hub comprises a housing adapted to be attached to an end of a hub shaft. A first cam, a second cam, and a pinion having engaging teeth are received in the housing for conjoint rotation. An elongated rack element is mounted for movement along an axis in the housing and is adapted to be coupled to a speed-selection device by a force-transmission member and includes a row of teeth in driving engagement with the engaging teeth of the pinion. A first pivot lever is pivotally mounted in the housing in constant contact with the first cam so as to follow a pivoting motion defined by the shape of the first cam and engages one of two speedchange elements, which are coupled to the transmission in the hub, so as to move the first speed change element upon pivotal movement in response to rotation of the first cam.

  • Patent number: 4835468
Abstract: An electronic instrument is mounted on a handlebar of a bicycle. An instrument carrier is fastened to the handlebar. The instrument itself is engageable with the instrument carrier for holding engagement. A signal receiver is fastened to one leg of a fork which carries a bicycle wheel. The receiver is opposite the bicycle wheel. A signal inducer is mounted on a spoke of the bicycle wheel. The signal inducer generates signals within the signal receiver. These signals are supplied from the signal receiver by a cable to the instrument carrier. The instrument carrier is provided with contacts. Complementary contacts are provided on the instrument. When the instrument is engaged with the instrument carrier the electrical contacts of the instrument carrier and of the instrument come in mutual electrical engagement. At least one of the contacts is provided on a silicon rubber block which is elastically deformable when the contacts of the instrument carrier and the instrument are brought in electric connection.

  • Patent number: 4793214
Abstract: The planet wheel carrier for a planetary gearing, especially a cycle multi-speed hub, comprises two annular discs (1) of substantially like form shape-stamped out of sheet metal material which are arranged coaxially and in mirror-image to one another each comprising several circumferentially mutually offset cylindrical bearing journals (5) pressed out of the sheet metal material and bridge dogs (11) pressed out of the sheet metal material in the same axial direction between the bearing journals (5) in the circumferential direction. The bearing journals (5) of the two annular discs (1) are aligned by pairs in the mirror-image arrangement and rotatably mount the planet gear wheels (7) arranged axially between the annular discs (1). The bridge dogs (11) lie against one another and are connected firmly with one another by securing means, for example rivets (15). Toothings (17) are provided on the internal circumference of the annular discs (1) for torque transmission.
