Patent number: 6415706Abstract: The description relates to an actuator for use at high and low temperatures, with a cylinder block (8), a piston (14) movable therein and a piston rod (22) secured to the piston. A first and a second flange cover (46, 48) and a sleeve (40) in the cylinder block (8) in which the piston (14) can move to and fro are made of ceramic. The piston rod (22) is secured to the piston (14), also of ceramic, by a head bearing (24) movable transversely to the longitudinal axis of the piston. The seal between the piston (14) and the sleeve (40) is provided solely by a close fit, without the need for additional sealing components. The low thermal expansion of the ceramic components used also means that the tolerances change little even at great temperature fluctuations. The radial head bearing (24) prevents the piston (14) from jamming during forces transverse to the longitudinal axis of the piston possibly arising at the piston rod (22).Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1999Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: Festo AG & Co.Inventors: Günter Pöschl, Kurt Stoll

Patent number: 5584322Abstract: A rotary slide valve (10) controls compressed air, nitrogen and oxygen streams independently from each other. The rotary slide valve (10) consists of a housing (15) with pairs of diametrically opposed radial bores and a valve body (11) with recesses (35, 37). The valve body (11) is coupled to a rotary drive R. According to its position, the valve body (11) opens and closes compressed air inlets, compressed air outlets or nitrogen outlets and controls the streams of compressed air and nitrogen. In addition, the rotary slide valve controls several streams of oxygen through several axial oxygen inlets (49, 51) and outlets (53, 55) which may be interconnected through an axial recess of the valve body (11). The rotary slide valve (10) is used in particular in air oxygen-enriching installations.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1995Date of Patent: December 17, 1996Assignee: PPV Verwaltungs AGInventors: Gunter Poschl, Detlev Degenhardt

Patent number: 5582090Abstract: A piston machine has two pistons which reciprocate in two cylinders. The cylinders define working chambers in which a working medium can either be compressed by the pistons or can exert pressure on the pistons. The pistons are connected to a crankshaft via two connecting rods which are pivotally connected to the same crank pin. The interior of the crankcase forms a third working chamber. The crankshaft is formed as a rotary slide valve which, in operation, connects the first working chamber to the third working chamber and the second working chamber to a working medium supply or discharge opening. The piston machine can be used either as an engine (such as an expansion motor driven by compressed gas) or as a working machine (such as a machine which produces compressed gas). In another embodiment, the rotary slide valve has a rotor which is formed by the crankcase and a stator which is a ring housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1992Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: PPV Verwaltungs-AGInventor: Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 5569029Abstract: A burner with a burner head (B) and a flame tube (F) is provided, with the burner head (B) having a concentric outlet arrangement of air and fuel feed nozzles. Following this a mixture of low-nitrogen air and fuel is produced, which is ignited in a chamber (11) in the interior of a hollow body (20). Hard-to-burn, noncombusted gas compounds flow upon exiting from the hollow body (20) along the exterior surface thereof back into the region before the hollow body (20) and flow again together with low-nitrogen air into the chamber (11) for combustion. This additional combustion increases the energy yield of the fuel and reduces the quantity of pollutants in the exhaust.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1994Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: PPV Verwaltungs AGInventor: Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 5565727Abstract: Liquid impinges on two sides (15, 17) of a plate (11) of piezoelectric material, for the liquid to be exposed to ultrasonic waves by the plate (11) oscillating at ultrasonic frequency. An electric voltage is uniformly applied to the two sides (15, 17) of the plate (11) at its peripheral edge via annular contact plates (27). The contact plates (27) have resilient fingers (31) bent towards the plate (11) for transferring the voltage on the one hand and for uniformly clamping the plate (11) on the other. To prevent the liqui from short-circuiting the plate (11), a seal (21) is located at the periphery of the plate (11) and is compressed for tightness between the plate (11), and intermediate ring (25) and the contact plates (27). An upper and a lower annular disc (19, 23) serve for better sealing and clamping of the plate (11).Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1994Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: PPV-Verwaltungs-AGInventor: Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 5564402Abstract: An arrangement for the pressure atomization of liquid fuel and process for the same.An arrangement for the pressure atomization of liquid fuel, preferably with an atomizing nozzle charged with pressurized fuel. A reaction chamber (10) with at least one ultrasonic oscillator (26) is disposed in the fuel line (32) before the atomizing nozzle. The reaction chamber (10) is preferably charged with oxygen-enriched air, liquid fuel and water. For the homogenization of the mixing components a mechanical cavitation element can be disposed in the reaction chamber (10). The cavitation element preferably comprises a rapidly rotating, discus-shaped disc having axial bores. The fuel mixture created in the chamber (10) in the form of a fine foam is combusted with a high degree of efficiency, nitrogen oxides do not result, particularly whenever oxygen-enriched air is used.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1995Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: PPV-Verwaltungs-AGInventor: Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 5530032Abstract: A method for the production of integral skin foam is provided. An inert, non-flammable gas is added together with a low quantity of hydrocarbon fluid to a liquid skeleton substance. Only the inert, non-flammable gas serves during energy supply for foaming up the skeleton substance. The hydrocarbon fluid promotes the formation of a dense outer skin of the integral skin foam. The liquid skeleton substance is brought into a chamber and a sonochemical process is brought about in order to dissolve the gases in the liquid skeleton substance. The hydrocarbon fluid is less than 1% by volume of the inert gas and the liquid skeleton substance.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: June 25, 1996Assignee: PPV-Verwaltungs-AGInventors: Hans-Jurgen Wayand, Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 5490727Abstract: A disc-shaped mixing tool (11) is used to mix liquids and to dissolve gases in liquids. The mixing tool (11) has a knife-sharp peripheral edge and several axial through bores (17), so that a liquid stream in the form of several cyclones (25) occurs upon rotation of the mixing tool (11). The bores (17) are each conically bevelled both on the upper and on the lower sides (13, 15) and are axially rounded off in the region (27) between the bevels in such a way that a radial airfoil profile (21) and, in a peripheral direction between adjacent bores (17), a peripheral airfoil profile (23) each result. Upon flowing through the bores (17) the liquid is spun radially outwards, resulting in tiny cavitation bubbles at the peripheral edge (19).Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1995Date of Patent: February 13, 1996Assignee: PPV-Verwaltungs-AGInventor: Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 5237907Abstract: A piston machine (10) has two pistons (42, 44) which are reciprocatable in two cylinders (20, 22) and which, in the first and second working chambers (50, 52) thereof, can be subjected to a working medium. The pistons are connected to a crankshaft (30) via two connecting rods (38, 40) which are pivotally connected to one and the same crank pin (36). The interior of the crankcase (18) forms a third working chamber (54). The crankshaft (30) is formed as a rotary slide valve which in operation of the piston machine (10) connects the first working chamber (50) to the third working chamber (54) and the second working chamber (52) to a working medium supply or discharge opening (14, 16). The piston machine can be used selectively as an engine (e.g. as an expansion motor operated with compressed gas) or as a working machine (e.g. as a compressor). The opening and closing times can be controlled exactly. For generating the same power, less working medium is required than in the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1989Date of Patent: August 24, 1993Assignee: PPV Verwaltungs-AGInventor: Gunter Poschl

Patent number: 4800730Abstract: The V-belt drive (30, 32) between a drive engine (M) and the compressor (10) is constructed as V-belt drive of infinitely variable transmission ratio having at least one cone pulley pair (20). Connected to the evaporator (14) is a pressure line (24) via which the pressure from the evaporator acts directly on an actuating drive (22) associated with the cone pulley pair (20), whereby said drive adjusts the cone pulleys of the cone pulley pair proportionally to changes of the pressure and thus adjusts the speed of the compressor (10) so that the pressure in the evaporator (14) is kept constant. The arrangement is suitable in particular for use in the refrigerating system of motor vehicles, for example for refrigerating and air-conditioning purposes.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1986Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Suetrak Transportkaelte GmbHInventors: Wolfgang E.
