  • Patent number: 4800687
Abstract: A roll assembly having a roll cylinder, a roll core and pressure transfer elements, which assembly is tightened for a grinding operation by applying hydraulic pressure through the pressure transfer elements and aligning the plane of the hydraulic overall pressure force to reduce to about zero the bearing play in the area of the contact line of the grinding wheel. The roll cylinder is mounted on the roll core through antifriction bearings, and in the finished apparatus, such as a calender, reduction of bearing play will compensate for wall thickness errors in the races of the antifriction bearings.

  • Patent number: 4546930
Abstract: An apparatus for winding a continuous web, specifically tear-resistant paper or cardboard web, is preferably designed as a Pope reel winder, and when exchanging a full roll with an empty reel-spool, the latter is in customary fashion placed on the winding drum over which the web initially continues to advance onto the full roll. At the edge of the web, a sickle-shaped catch lever reaches around the upper portion of the empty reel-spool and engages the edge of a web loop to pull it about a portion of the empty reel-spool. Simultaneously, a cutting device can make a transverse cut in the edge of the paper web, and once the web edge has been engaged by the empty reel-spool, the remaining portion of the web tears through essentially without any shock effect.

  • Patent number: 4390138
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for reeling a web, for instance a web of paper, on a winding shaft over which core tubes are fitted. A lifting device engages the completed roll only at the periphery thereof and lifts it to an extraction position, where an extraction device extracts the winding shaft. The same lifting device moves a new core tube to the extraction station, where the winding shaft is inserted in the core tube. The combination of winding shaft and the new core tube is then lifted, either by the same lifting device or by a separate lifting mechanism, to a return roller path along which the shaft rolls, and at the end of which the shaft is received by an additional lifting device. The additional lifting device lowers the shaft, delivering it to the jaws of a pivotable reel swing member, which pivots to bring the winding shaft with the new core tube into the position at the application station for winding a new roll therein.

  • Patent number: 4357866
Abstract: A calender for a traveling web is disclosed. A frame includes an upper part and a lower part, the lower part having a pair of vertical arms at each end, and the upper part being connected to the upper end of the arms. Bearing brackets are disposed at each end of the frame, between the vertical arms at that end. At least two horizontal rollers are accommodated in the bearing brackets, substantially in a single vertical pressing plane. The bearing brackets are held in place by the vertical arms and the upper part of the frame. Preferably, the upper part of the frame itself serves as the bearing bracket for the upper roller, and the bearing brackets may be secured to at least one of the vertical arms at each end of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4157794
Abstract: A rolling device for rolling up a sheet onto roll formers or spools: a roll former is inserted between and supported on two supporting rollers and a sheet is wound on it; the finished wound roll on its roll former is lifted off one of the supporting rollers looping the sheet, and the slack loop section is stapled to the next roll former; the sheet is cut off at the new roll former.

  • Patent number: 4146187
Abstract: A web passes over a drive roller onto a reel which becomes fully wound; the full reel is moved away from the drive roller; an empty reel engages the drive roller; a web shifting element lifts the web, in a direction counter to the rotation direction of the drive roller, to form a loop that wraps around the empty reel; a transport element may upraise the web at the other side of the drive roller so that the web loop may enter either the nip defined between the web and the empty reel with the web upraised or the nip between the empty reel and the drive roller with the transport element down; the web shifting element and/or the transport element may include an air cushioning device for the web.
