    Abstract: The invention relates to a cable closure for optical-fiber cables, preferably optical-fiber minicables or optical-fiber microcables, with cable lead-in units, which are arranged perpendicularly with respect to the axis of the closure body, and it is possible for the closure to be fitted vertically into a core hole made into the earth or into road surfacings. On account of laid-in excess lengths of optical waveguide, splice organizers in the interior of the closure body can be taken out upwards for service work. Preferably, the excess lengths of optical waveguide are carried in a protective tube, which is deposited in a plurality of loops in the interior of the closure.

    Abstract: The stress test rig consists of a rigidly mounted part which contains the devices uniformly used for all types of test gears and an assembly truck (37) which holds the test gear (16) and the required adapter devices. A test rig gear unit (2) forms a continuous stress circuit with a superimposed gear unit (9), an adaptation gear (23) and a second test rig gear (19) wherein the stress torque is set by a control unit (15) through the superimposed gear unit (9). The regulation variable for the stress torque is determined up to more than 80% by a control network (31). The test rig gear unit (2) is a bevel gear wheel and the superimposed gear unit (9) has a bevel gear step (13) so that the output shaft (14) of the superimposed gear unit (9) is pivoted and has a height adapted to an input shaft of an adaptation gear unit (23) or of a test gear unit (16).

    Abstract: A volume spring element 152 is located inside the piston 10 which is open to the cylinder 20. The spring element 152 is surrounded by hydraulic liquid on all sides except at its surface 1521 at which the element 152 is attached to the piston 10. When the hydraulic pressure increases, the volume spring element is compressed thereby decreasing its volume. When the hydraulic pressure decreases, the volume spring element expands again. When the hydraulic cylinder is closed off by a valve, then the hydraulic liquid in the piston 10 and in the cylinder 20 is disposed in a closed-off space or chamber. Axial pressures on the cylinder cause a pressure increase in the hydraulic medium. This causes the volume of the volume spring element to be decreased and the piston to be moved axially by the amount corresponding to the decrease of the equally large oil volume in the piston.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for adjusting a saddle of a cycle in elevation. The arrangement includes a saddle support 1 which can be adjusted in elevation and which is mounted in an inclined frame tube 8 of the cycle. The saddle support 1 can be subjected to hydraulic pressure. A hollow body 20 is fixed in the frame tube 8 and receives the support tube 10 of the saddle support 1. The hollow body 20 and the support tube 10 conjointly define a pressure space 201 which is variable in volume. This pressure space 201 can be connected to a pressure medium storage vessel 40 via a remotely-manipulated actuating valve 403.

    Abstract: An arrangement 10 includes at least one straight rod 11 which is connected to the saddle support frame or to the support 20 carrying the saddle support frame. The arrangement 10 prevents rotation of the saddle about the longitudinal axis of the support 20 and limits the stroke of the support in the rearward inclined tube of the cycle frame and therefore fixes the highest elevation to which the saddle can be adjusted. The arrangement also prevents theft of the assembly comprising the saddle and its support. In a case of a closed frame, the arrangement 10 includes a U-shaped rod defined by two legs on respective sides of the transverse tube 32 of the cycle frame. The U-shaped rod includes a bight portion 17 which connects the two lower ends of the rod 11. The bight portion 17 limits the stroke of the support 20 and makes theft of the assembly of saddle and support difficult.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a coupling arrangement for changing a compon on a block of a hoist which is fitted with a rotary drive. The coupling arrangement has an upper part which remains on the block and which has a latching mechanism for accommodating a lower part. Each tool or component which is to be coupled to the block has a lower part which can be coupled and latched together with the upper part so that by changing the lower part, it is possible to change the component. In order to achieve a reliable and rapid remote exchange of a component on a hoist, the upper part is configured as a hollow cylindrical part which is provided with a bottom wall. The bottom wall has a central aperture from which extend two radial slots. The hollow cylinder and the lower wall conjointly define a housing for the latching mechanisms which are disposed at about 90.degree. in relation to corresponding ones of the radial slots.

The defective conduit portion to be removed is sawn out of a conduit and a replacement conduit segment is welded into the conduit. In order to provide for rapidly and accurately welding the replacement conduit segment into the conduit, the step of machining the two conduit end portions is combined with the step of determining the inside dimension between the conduit end portions formed by the step of sawing out the defective conduit portion. An apparatus for carrying out the method of the invention is also disclosed.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a remotely-operable positioning and carrier aratus for remote-handling equipment for use in large-area cells containing process components. The apparatus is mounted on a lifting device of an overhead bridge crane. The apparatus achieves good positioning of the particular remote-handling equipment even at locations which are poorly accessible. The apparatus includes a horizontal beam which is fixed at an eccentric position thereon to the bottom sheave unit of the lifting device so that the horizontal beam defines a long lever arm and a short lever arm. A receiving lever is pivotally connected to the end of the longer lever arm. The receiving lever has an equipment receiving device at its free end. A displaceable counterweight is arranged on the short lever arm for altering the position of the center of gravity of the apparatus. This apparatus makes it possible also to operate in spaces beneath components present in a rack.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and arrangement for providing safe vertical landing of airplanes, which are not provided with VTOL equipment or which are hindered with respect to their actual flight capabilities, as well as for providing extrinsically supported zero-run takeoff of airplanes. An airplane equipped with lower takeup means is coupled in flight to upper takeup means carried by a rotary wing aircraft flying above the airplane. The rotary wing aircraft generates the propulsion necessary to transport the airplane and the lifting force and sets it down vertically. Zero-run takeoff is initiated by lifting the airplane and accelerating it into its direction of flight by the rotary wing aircraft. When sufficient height, speed against wind and self-propulsion are gained, the airplane releases the connection to the upper takeup means and flies without assistance.

    Abstract: A remotely-operable positioning and carrier arrangement for mounting and itioning remote handling apparatus is described for use in large-area cells containing process equipment particularly in radioactively-charged large-area cells of facilities for reprocessing irradiated nuclear fuels. In such large-area cells, the process components are disposed in racks. Maintenance and servicing work is carried out on the process components and the racks using the remote handling apparatus. The positioning and carrier arrangement which is used for this purpose has a vertically movable support. For a more precise positioning, the positioning and carrier arrangement is transportable and can be suspended on the particular rack at which work is to be done. The positioning and carrier arrangement has a table-like main frame which, in turn, has legs which are disposed horizontally when the frame is suspended on the rack. The ends of the legs are supported against the rack.

The remote handling apparatus has an industrial robot which is controlled by a process computer and which, for the purpose of detecting the position of an arm of an articulated joint of the robot, is provided with a rotary sensor for determining the angular position of the arm. The rotary sensor is configured as a resolver and is configured pursuant to the induction principle. A second resolver is arranged coaxially with respect to the first resolver in order to be able to check the true position of the arm of the joint. On its shaft, the second resolver has a suitable indicator which is rotatable with the shaft relative to a zero mark.

The position of damage zones is detected and ascertained with the use of coordinates. Replacement parts and tools are moved into the maintenance and work position in dependence upon the coordinate data, and the repair of maintenance work is automatically carried out under computer control, with remote operation and remote monitoring. For carrying out the work, computer-controlled handling machines and manipulators are used which are adapted to travel in controllable manner in the hot cell. The monitoring and detecting, using coordinates, of damage zones and defects may be carried out with the use of cameras and/or leak detectors.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of performing remotely-manipulated ntenance work on upwardly extending conduits in a radioactively-ladened cell such as a large-area cell of a nuclear facility for reprocessing irradiated nuclear fuel. A conduit segment is sawn out of a vertical conduit and a new conduit segment welded into place. The removal of cutting chips from the lower vertical end portion of the conduit after the conduit segment has been sawn out is achieved by freezing the liquid medium in the conduit to form frost plugs above and below the tube portion to be removed. A third frost plug is formed in the lower portion of the vertical conduit above the frost plug which has already been produced therein. Thereafter, the tube portion to be removed is cut and separated from the conduit. Then an anchor member is lowered into the lower end portion of the conduit onto the third frost plug.

    Abstract: Apparatus is described for remotely positioning, connecting, and generally andling components in a hot cell of a reprocessing plant for spent nuclear fuels. The apparatus includes a housing mounting a first stationary clamp for holding one end of a pipe and a second movable clamp for holding the end of a second pipe to be welded to the first. By adjusting the movable clamp, the pipe therein can be aligned with the pipe in the stationary clamp. The movable clamp can be moved longitudinally to press the pipe ends together, upwardly to compensate for pipe out of round, and can be tilted where pipes are to be joined at an angle. The adjustment permits accurate alignment of the parts. A tool support is rotatably mounted on said stationary clamp to permit welding or other processing through 360.degree..
