Abstract: The chemical and/or physico-chemical determination of the ageing of a motor oil is very expensive and requires measuring methods which cannot be carried out on board a motor vehicle. The determination of only one oil condition parameter, for example the viscosity, only enables conditional statements to be made with respect to oil quality since conflicting effects may exist to varying degrees in this case. According to the invention, oil quality can be determined by a quartz base coated with a sensitive layer. The sensitive layer has a surface or volume which is adapted to an oil component and is suitable for the repeated incorporation and release of the oil component according to the concentration thereof. When the oil component is present, it is incorporated in the sensitive layer causing the resonant frequency of the layer to decrease via a mass effect or causing an effective increase of the component thickness or mass.

Abstract: Improved bioavailability, particularly when the drug is administered orally, of the active ingredient 2-hydroxy-5-methyllaurophenoxime (HMLO) of a pharmaceutical preparation is achieved by improving the absorption of the active ingredient HMLO significantly by including bile acids in the preparation. As bile acids, it is possible to use, for example, desoxychloic acid or dehydrocholic acid or a mixture of the two in the form of their salts.

Abstract: Binding materials based upon magnesium compounds. Dry magnesium hydroxide and magnesium chloride are mixed in powder form, the weight ratio of the magnesium oxide contained in the magnesium hydroxide to magnesium chloride lying between about 0.8 and 2.0. Magnesium chloride may be used in the form of its hexahydrate, and, additionally, in the form of dihydrates. The dry product may be stored for months, in plastic sacks or bags, without coking. Thereafter, mixing the dry product with water yields magnesium oxide mortar.

Abstract: A calibrating device for a breath alcohol measuring instrument which includes a passage for the breathing air which has a sensor and a collector arranged therein with a discharge to atmosphere from the collector comprises a connecting circuit having valve means for selectively connecting the circuit through the passage. The connecting circuit has a member with a chamber therein which has a piston wall member movable in the chamber between two end positions and spring means biasing it toward one end position. A calibrating gas supply and a sensor are selectively connectable to the chamber on one side of the movable piston wall member. Control means are connected to the chamber and the sensor and to the valve means for selectively connecting either the calibrating gas supply or the sensor to the chamber and to the passage for the breathing air in the measuring instrument.
