  • Patent number: 4991258
Abstract: This invention relates to eyeglasses comprising spring hinges which permit the bows of the eyeglasses to be forcibly swung out beyond open positions which are defined by stops so that the bows can resiliently bear on the head of the wearer. The spring hinges may provide for a snap action on the bows as they are moved between their swung-in and their open positions. For making each of the hinges, a preassembled unit is provided, which comprises a rim-side hinge eye connected to a slider, which contains a spring-biased plunger, a spring and a locking member. The slider of the preassembled unit is adapted to be inserted into a receptacle provided at the forward end portion of the associated bow and is adapted to be locked in the receptacle by the locking member. The locking member is provided at both ends with beveled end faces.

  • Patent number: 4904077
Abstract: This invention relates to a locked screw joint for connecting two eyeglass members, particularly members of a closing block or a hinge of an eyeglass frame. A bore is provided with screw threads at one end and is provided at its other end with an abutment for the head of a hinge screw, which abutment consists of a flat surface or of a counterbore. The locked screw joint can be opened and reconnected, as is required in the manufacture and use of eyeglass frames. This is accomplished in that a conical elevation surrounding the bore is provided on the abutment surface for the screw head, the inner edge of the shank of the screw has a conical constriction under the screw head and as the shank is screwed in the conical elevation is deformed to extend into and is locked in the constriction.

  • Patent number: 4747183
Abstract: A spring hinge for eyeglasses in which each bow can be swung out against spring force about a fulcrum spaced from the hinge axis so that the bow will resiliently bear on the temples of the wearer. A spring is secured on a plunger rod between a plunger head at one end of the rod and a stop ring, which is slidably mounted on the rod. The plunger is contained in and releasably locked to a receptacle which is provided on the bow. The plunger rod is connected to a bow-side bearing eye. Owing to that arrangement, the bow-side hinge member and the parts connected to it can be assembled and taken apart by access to only one end of the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4674147
Abstract: This invention relates to a bow and spring hinge assembly for eyeglasses, in which each bow can be opened beyond a stop-defined position so that the bow can resiliently bear on the head of the wearer. The novel assembly can be used also with slender and thin bows and provides for a transverse bracing for eliminating a transverse backlash between relatively slidable parts. For this reason the assembly is provided in the slider and in the bow end portion with recesses, which face each other and each of which is provided on opposite sides with inwardly facing track grooves, and I-section members are provided, each of which is in sliding contact with the track grooves of both said recesses so that said I-section members hold said bow end portion and said slider together against a transverse separation.

  • Patent number: 4617698
Abstract: This invention relates to a spring-biased hinge assembly for spectacles. The hinge assembly comprises a bow-side section defining a cavity, and a slider, which carries a bow-side hinge element and extends into the cavity and is adapted to be extended from said cavity against spring action. The bow-side hinge element cooperates with the midportion-side hinge element. The hinge assembly should be slender and should be accommodated to a large extent in the end portion of the bow. For this purpose, the cavity is defined by a flat tubular element, in which a tongue of the slider is slidably mounted. The tongue has a longitudinal slot, in which the return spring extends, which engages an abutment that extends into the wall of the tubular member and through said slot.

  • Patent number: 4461548
Abstract: This invention relates to a spectacle frame having metal or plastic bows, which can be forced open beyond their normal open position to bear resiliently on the head of the wearer. Each bow is connected to the rim of the spectacle frame by a hinge, which includes a bow-side part and a rim-side part. The hinge includes a spring mechanism, which at least in a plastic bow can be almost entirely or entirely accommodated. The hinge should be adapted to be used with metal bows in such a manner that only flat portions of the hinge protrude on the inside of the bow so that the bow will be flat and free from protruding hinge portions on the inside, which faces the face of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4351086
Abstract: This invention relates to a spring hinge for eyeglasses having plastic or metal bows. The hinge includes a first hinge member which is adapted to be connected to a bow, and a second hinge member which is adapted to be connected to a frame center part, both hinge members being pivotally interconnected. The first hinge member is connected to an elongated U-shaped slider which extends into and is guided in a flat receptacle provided at the end of the bow. A spring member fitted on a rod is received in the slider for urging the same into the receptacle. The first hinge member has a portion overlapping the receptacle adjacent to the open end thereof. Between the slider and the overlapping portion, the first hinge member is further provided with a bevelled surface for engaging the outlet edge of the receptacle when the hinge is retracted so that there is no backlash during the movement of the bow from the inturned position to the normal open position.

  • Patent number: 4305644
Abstract: The hinge members are intended for use in injection-molded spectacle rims of plastic material. An eyelet portion has a base section and a body section formed with a bearing aperture. An anchoring portion is adapted to be fixed in a mold used to make the rim by injection molding and to embed the anchoring portion in the rim. The anchoring portion has a first section, which adjoins the base section and is larger in axial thickness than the base section to form a first shoulder, and a second section, which adjoins the first section and is larger in axial thickness than the first section to form a second shoulder. At least part of the second section tapers toward the base section. The first shoulder is adapted to constitute a sealing surface when the anchoring portion is thus fixed in said mold.
