  • Patent number: 4655439
Abstract: In a shock strut for a vehicle including a spring plate for supporting a helical spring, a receiving or catching member is connected to the spring plate. The receiving member prevents any lateral movement of the helical spring in the event of a spring failure. A simple connection of the receiving member to the spring plate is provided independently of the materials used for these members. The connection is afforded by downwardly projecting parts on the receiving member which extend through suitably dimensioned openings in the spring plate.

  • Patent number: 4376472
Abstract: In a cylinder piston device, a piston unit is fixed to a piston rod member within a cavity defined by a cylinder member. The piston unit is provided with a piston ring supporting face, which is directed substantially in a radially outward direction towards the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder member. A piston ring member with a radially inner circumferential face and a radially outer circumferential face is supported by its radially inner circumferential face on said piston ring supporting face and engages by its radially outer circumferential face the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder member. The piston ring member is provided with at least one radially inward directed projection extending in the radially inward direction beyond the radially inner circumferential face, the projection axially engaging a securing face of the piston unit, and the securing face extending radially inward of the piston ring supporting face.

  • Patent number: 4371280
Abstract: A shackle assembly for fastening of compression struts at the steering knuckle in the wheel suspension of a motor vehicle is formed with an inner and an outer strap member, the straps being adapted to be arranged together to define a compression strut span within which a compression strut may be received. Holes are formed in both the inner and outer strap member through which fastening screws are received. The holes are defined through the strap members at a location outside of the compression strut span with the holes extending through the inner strap member being formed with a larger diameter than the holes defined through the outer strap member.

  • Patent number: 4364457
Abstract: A piston-cylinder unit including a cylinder assembly, a guide and seal assembly at one end of the cylinder assembly and a piston rod assembly axially movable relative to said cylinder assembly through the guide and seal assembly is formed with a cap assembly having an annular bottom, which is essentially normal to the axis of the unit, and a jacket with the piston rod assembly extending through the annular bottom and with the annular bottom being located adjacent the guide and seal assembly on a side thereof facing away from a hollow space defined within the cylinder assembly. The jacket bears against the outer circumferential surface of the cylinder assembly, and a tubular body which is elastically compressible in the axial direction is arranged on the outer portion of the piston rod assembly, with the tubular body being fastened in the axial direction on a fastening point of the piston rod assembly at a portion facing away from the cap assembly.

  • Patent number: 4345748
Abstract: A fluid damped unit includes a cylinder, a piston rod arranged for extending and retracting movement from one end of the cylinder, the rod having a piston at its end within the cylinder, and a damper unit arranged in an annular work chamber formed between the piston rod and the cylinder for damping the movement of the piston rod. The damper unit includes a damping ring which is carried in a damping ring carrier, the ring frictionally contacting the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder. A stop ring is mounted to the piston rod for contacting the damping ring carrier when the piston rod is extended past a predetermind intermediate position toward a fully extended position wherein movement of the piston rod is hydraulically damped. The damping ring carrier is arranged to be fixed in the axial direction of the cylinder when the piston rod is retracted beyond its predetermined intermediate position.

  • Patent number: 4238009
Abstract: In a vibration damper or shock absorber for a vehicle, an axially extending cylinder is positioned within a similarly axially extending container with an annular reservoir formed between them. A piston rod extends through a guide in one end of the cylinder and includes a piston axially slidable within the cylinder for dividing it into a pair of working spaces interconnected through a damping device in the piston. One of the working spaces is in fluid connection with the reservoir. A connection is provided between the piston rod guide and the container and includes an annular groove in the guide and a projection from the container extending into the groove. Further, a sealing ring is provided between the guide and the container axially outwardly from the projection-groove.
